Protein and Morning Sickness

I don't know if I'm imagining this, but I'm starting to think that high protein meals might make morning sickness go away, at least for me.

I noticed that I was feeling queasy all day, and was having dinner with a friend and wanted to cancel, but she had some tough times going on in her life so I felt bad and forced myself to go (plus, she doesn't know I'm pregnant yet so I would have had to make up an excuse). Anyway, I ate this big seafood dinner and felt so much better. So today, again, total queasiness all day - just had a huge cheeseburger at lunch and feel so much better.

This doesn't work with all foods I eat. Normally I'm subsisting on various carbs and dairy and it helps the queasiness a little but it seems like protein almost totally makes it go away! I've had very little desire to have seafood and meat but I think I may force myself to eat it more often now!

Anyone else notice this?

Re: Protein and Morning Sickness

A lot of Practitioners believe that one of the major causes of morning sickness are spikes and dips in blood sugar levels.

SImple carbs and sugars will cause spikes and then you crash which can lead you to feeling ill. Adding a little protein to the mix helps to slowly raise blood sugar levels and mantain them longer and avoid that spike and crash effect........

YES. this is definitely true for me this time around.

i am finding that the foods i have been eating to alleviate the nausea (crackers, grapes) are actually making it WORSE! when i eat high protein stuff i feel much better. problem is, i really don't crave any high protein stuff, so i have to force myself... but i'm doing it because in the end i'm feeling better.

still not liking drinking, though Chat Icon
