Re: promise..last question..and its about poop
is she in pain and straining to poo? if she is, many moms on this board reported their ped's recommending a dash of pear or prune juice added to a bottle of BM/formula...
DS was always straining... we began giving him a 1/2 oz every morning in his bottle and he no longer has any problems
however, if you're EBF, it's normal not to poop everyday....

Re: promise..last question..and its about poop
she is 5 weeks now right? DS started to go a little less around that time. as long as she's not straining to go i would say she's okay, but you can always call the ped to make sure.

Re: promise..last question..and its about poop
My DD is 5+ WEEKS old and her ped told me don't get alarmed if she goes a day or two without pooping. When she does go, just see if it looks normal for her and don't worry about it. I would not start giving her anything, just wait and see what happens but according to my dr, it's normal.

Re: promise..last question..and its about poop
When DD was 5 weeks old she got constipated and we were told by our ped to take a thermometer lubed with vaseline and gently stick it in her rectum (tmi-I know)-it worked imediately!

Re: promise..last question..and its about poop
We started 1 oz of prune juice daily at 6 weeks and have continued since. The ped said wait 24 hours but then you can intervene if they seem uncomfortable. To know if she really is constipated vs. the "normal" no-poop, take notice of the poop itself. If it's not hard, she's not constipated.
First I would try lubing up a thermometer and just stimulating her like that.
If that doesn't work, *I* would put 1/2 oz of prune juice in her next bottle. But that's just me.
