Programmable Thermostat
I have a old fashioned Dial thermostat in my house; our heat bills last winter were through the roof!
I want to buy a digital programmable thermostat. Just wondering if anyone was able to do this without having to hire an electrician? I'm going to price them in Home Depot & Lowes and see if they tell me i need to have it professionally installed.
Just trying to get an idea of what is typical before i go into the store (i'm sure they'll sell their installation to me so would like to see if anyone actually did it on their own)

I have done this, but you want to be careful. Make sure you kill the power at the breaker because if its a high voltage thermostat (which is possible), that can really bite you if you get zapped.
Otherwise it's not difficult. Just match the wires up.

We have 2 programmable thermostats in our house... one for the heat and one for the AC. Last year, my dad and DH installed the one for the heat. And in May, DH installed the one for the AC all by himself. It's definitely not hard, just be careful.
