Progesterone

So I had mentioned that Cornell gave me progesterone suppositories as a just in case thing, not because I've demonstrated low levels. Although I do have a LP of barely 12 days, and have had late implanters that I lost, though who knows if it was because of progesterone or embryo quality.

So I had 3 good follies, which means 3 healthy corpus lutea making natural progesterone. Then they put me on 100mg suppository in the morning and again at night. I feel awful. I have been an emotional mess, nauseous, hot, shaky, dizzy at times.

Do you think it's worth it to feel like this?

Progesterone

Do they think you need it for a specific reason? Did they test your progesterone level before they prescribed it?

They don't have many of their own records on my progesterone. It's all based on the factors I mentioned.

Re: Progesterone

There is a danger in stopping abruptly, so I would keep it up.

I think too much of it will basically make you feel pregnant. A lot of those physical symptoms are listed as side effects.

I have always been very sensitive to bcp too, which is why I've only taken them for a year in my whole life. It doesn't surprise me that the fertility meds hit me so hard.

Hm, a 12-day LP isn't really considered short. Less than 10 days is short. Mine is consistently 10 days but I still got pg. Plus, with that many follies, you should probably be producing plenty of progesterone to support a pregnancy.

Did they test your progesterone levels? If it's naturally high enough, there's no need for you to be on the supplements.

And finally, progesterone really shouldn't be giving you those side effects. Could it possibly be anxiety?

Yeah, I'm sorta wondering if it's something other than the progresterone.

Re: Progesterone

Did you trigger? I noticed that I would get like that and I think it was from the hcg. I would get dizzy spells, nausea, irritable and either really hungry and then lose my appetite. It was totally like I was pregnant, but once the hcg was out of my system, the symptoms went away and I was still on the progesterone. Hopefully your pregnant and your body is producing hcg and that's why your feeling this way!Chat Icon Chat Icon Good luck!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Well, yeah, I am questioning how necessary it is to take it. I have taken the supps for an IUI before, but never a medicated one with multiple follies producing it naturally. I think that's why I'm reacting like this.

But honestly, progesterone always makes me feel a little bit like this. When I did my 2nd IVF, they had me on so much progesterone, I tested at the top of the testing range on day21. I had to sit in front of the air conditioner at work, sweating, and everyone was looking at me like I was crazy, saying it wasn't that hot. The physical symptoms I mentioned are specifically listed in the pamphlet that comes with the meds. And the emotionally stuff, I'll tell you that a friend of mine got pregnant and went to her RE and said, "This is what I want most in the world. How come I'm crying all the time and I don't feel happy about it." He responded, "Talk to me when you stop taking progesterone."

Normally I do get anxious during the 2ww but since this is something that I see as a silly, interim IUI after failed IVFs, I am not worked up about it at all.

But again, I'm hypersensitive to hormone meds. I've taken bcp for 2 stints in my life (once on the lowest dose pill on the market) and had to stop almost right away because they made me really depressed. A month after I stopped taking them (each time) the clouds parted and I felt normal again.
