Re: Products to remove highlights?
If you want to take them all out I would say you need to dye it back to your natural color. If you want to remove some but not all- have them put some lowlights in and it will make a big difference.

Re: Products to remove highlights?
yea... no go on removing highlights - you can strip regular hair color, but really it just prepares your hair for a new dye (it turns out being this super weird gross color)
if you don't dye your hair a lot yourself, then definitely go to a professional because the color will take differently to the previously highlighted areas and you may end up with a much brighter/lighter color than you wanted. They should be able to match your reg. hair color

Re: Products to remove highlights?
I agree with everyone else.. the only way to get rid of them is to dye over them darker..
But maybe you can tone your hair so that the highlights are a more desirable color?

Re: Products to remove highlights?
my hair is blonde, and I have bleach highlights and I really want to have the JHS done but the place I want to go to (hair club IB) doesn't really reccomend it, and I don't want my hair to break off b/c of them. I just found pics of my hair before i began highlighting it and i'm shocked my hair wasn't as dark as I thought it was. I dyed it brown over the winter and LOVED it but my roots grew in really fast and every 2 weeks or so I looked like I had gray hair
I don't know how they would match my natural color, is that even possible?? and would my hair still be "weak" after dying it??
ahhhhhh I feel so lost

Bleaching definitely weakens the hair -which is why they don't want to do the JHS on top of that...double chemical processing is never great for your hair. If you were to have the highlights covered with dye- they could definitely match your natural- a professional colorist should have no problem with that. Dying it darker deposits color- so it will be a little bit healthier than when you had highlights- but honestly I would wait for the highlighted hair to grow out before doing the JHS- just to be safe... You dont' want to end up with fried hair...

thanks! I guess I'll be waiting a very long time! should I just dye it back to my natural color cut like 6 inches off and then wait about 6 months then get the JHS done? would that be a good amount of time? DH just gave JHS to me for my birthday (he was going to pay for it) I guess I'll have to find another gift

Re: Products to remove highlights?
would you consider the brazilian alternative?
its actually great for colored hair. it wont make it stick straight, but will certainly make it easier to get it stick straight. MUCH easier!
id look into it. itll keep your hair nice and healthy..give you the benefits of much, much easier and quicker blowouts, takes out the frizz...and then when your bleach is grown out, you could switch to jhs if you still wanted it.

Re: Products to remove highlights?
well, I would have to say that after having highlights and getting the JHS I would not reccommend it.. Im having a lot of breakages and plus my hair didnt come out super straight. It was super stragiht when I left the salon then after waiting and following all the correct instructions afterwards it came out wavy after my first shampoo I think this is because they couldnt leave the solution on long enough because of the bleach highlights...

i think i might try this. my hair is not brown its naturally blonde just not as light as it is now (well it was 5 years ago before highlights, thats the last pic I could find) so maybe i will see if she can match my natural color and then give it a few months just to relax and then have it done. thanks!

I'm nervous about this. i though they used phomldihide (sp?) in your hair?? I really don't think I want that

It does. Allure did a huge article on it this spring. Here is a piece from Time Out NY... Formaldehyde

Re: Products to remove highlights?
Since you already have highlights, the damage is done. Coloring over it will not change the fact that you have chemically altered your hair ... which is what IB has reservations about doing JHS over. If anything coloring it dark just adds to the processing your hair has undergone.
