Preschool spin off
So I have tons of time to figure this out, but I'm curious what you think
Dd goes to an in home daycare..great socialization and we love our babysitter
What happens when she gets older?
Is it typically preschool at 3 and pre-k at 4?
Do they have full day programs anywhere like 2x a week?
I could have the babysitter bring her to a drop off program, but then I'm pretty sure I still have to pay the babysitter for the day, and the school tuition on top of that, so it would be even more expensive. If there's full day programs I would just send her there instead of the babysitter for the day..

Preschool spin off
Most, if not all, full time child care centers have preschool programs. You can always send her to one 2-3 days a week and cut the sitter's hours. Where are you located? We went to a great center in East Northport that I can recommend.

Check out Toddler Time in Seaford... They have programs for as young as 18 months and you can do part time.

Preschool spin off
I have this same issue. My son is at home with a babysitter. So when i enroll him into preschool i will be paying my babysitter ontop of the preschool fee. I need her to drop him off and pick him up, so it is what it is.
If my child was in daycare -- or being babysat in an in home daycare I might forgo preschool since he is already getting socialization, and probably doing a routine and learning there.

A daycare center would have Pre K programs and you can have them there all day, just like daycare
You can do 2 or 3 days a week at most of the large centers

We also use an in-home daycare. S is there through this summer. She will start full-day pre-k with aftercare in September (she will be 4 in october, and will go to K next fall).

We did preschool at 3, prek at 4 (but ours was a mixed program).
Did half days (also paying a babysitter) & that comes out to 2.5 hours... But yes, there are many places with extended days. My issues are the summers & holidays & sick days. I can't take that time off.
Many have 2,3 or 5 days a week for 3s. At 4, this becomes tough (I worked out a special circumstance).

If it's an actual daycare center, holidays and summers should not be an issue.
My center does close on BIG holidays like 4th of July, Christmas, etc., but those are holidays my company is closed. They don't close for the smaller holidays like Veterans Day, Columbus Day etc.
And summers is just regular daycare or camp

Summer and holidays are no problem since I'm a teacher. Regardless if she starts at 3 or 4, I would need something that has hours from like 830-4ish-2/3 days a week would actually be perfect because my babysitter is flexible.
When do you typically register? The spring before they start?

the little guy I watch at my home daycare is 3 and his parents plan to start him in preschool when he's 4. I think their plan is a couple days a week so I may still have him a day or two. Your caregiver probably won't charge you for an entire day if they only have him a couple hours. But yes, every daycare I've worked at has a preschool within in. You could start looking into those.

DD is starting daycare 2 days a week in July (she'll be 18 months). She's going to be going to Kiddie Academy which is a combination daycare and preschool. Ultimately, if I sign her up for upk at 3, she can still go to Kiddie Academy for the rest of the day after that. They also do bussing from the schools in my district to the center, so that is an awesome perk that she'll be able to go straight from school to the daycare.
ETA: they're also open until 6pm which is great for me since I get out of work later.
