Preschool in Merrick area
Can someone recommend one? I need one with extended hours from 7am-6pm. DS is in daycare now but im thinking of moving him in september when he'll be 4. im not sure yet tho.
and if anyone has any experience with:
Merrick Woods, Merrick
MapleWood, Wantagh
South Shore, Bellmore

Ds goes to south shore. Their hours are 730 to 530 if that matters. I saw all three of these when I was looking. Fm me if u want more info.

My ds went to Alphabetland in North Bellmore for nursery and pre k. They have those hours, and a location in Merrick in the Brookside school

DS goes to big chief. I love it. It's play based. IMO that is so important. He still learns everything but, it's worked into play. Your kid is not going to come out of big chief writing (at least my 3 year isn't) but, they will have awesome social skills and learn SO much. They contrive situations for learning but, believe the child's job is playing and pretending and that learning can take place naturally in those settings. This is a very simplistic explanation of the methods but, the director can give you a large packet about the play based learning they do. I don't know if the pre-k classes do more academics (4 year olds) but, I know the K classes do.
They have monthly themes and lesson plan. Last month was community helpers. They had a nurse, dentist, ambulance driver, firetruck and police man all visit the school.
This month is vehicles. It just started but they had an awesome canoe on the lawn and the kids were all in it pretending the grass was water. It looks small from the oustide but, it is several building, 2 pools, leveled playgrounds and large sports fields. They even cook hot lunch everyday for them. Very balanced and good.
I know it's not one of the ones you asked for but, it's in the area and I thought I would give my review. I have sent serveral friends and coworkers there and they love it.

thanks guys! i'm not looking at big chief only because it's too far north from the train station. i catch the 7:13 to brooklyn so i literally need to run to the train after drop off! i looked at merrick woods, but they're crazy expensive compared to the others.
