Prenatal Vitamins

Hello Chat Icon

I am not sure if DH and I are really TTC, but we're definitely not preventing it anymore, so I was wondering if I should be taking prenatal vitamins? If so, where do I get them?

Lots of Chat Icon to everyone!!!

Re: Prenatal Vitamins

Hi! good luck! My gyno gave me a few samples to try out but you can get them at a local pharmacy. They sell them OTC.

Re: Prenatal Vitamins

If you already take a woman's multi vitamin just get a folic acid suppliment and take one with the one a day. Then worry about pre natals when you get your bfp. HTH

Re: Prenatal Vitamins

i spoke with my gyn and my general doctor and they both agree that you should be taking prenatals

from what i have been told and read online, the higher the amount of folic acid the better (my gyn said she would write me a prescription for prenatals that have 1000mcg while my general doctor told me the otc ones that have 800mcg are fine)

someone told me cvs brand pills have 900mcg of folic acid so i would try those.
the only reason i plan to fill the prescription is if they are cheaper than the otc ones.

also something i was told to look out for is the amount of iron...the gummy prenatals dont seem to have iron in them and you want iron

hth

i think each doc has their own opinion.
Mine told me to just take a multivitamin, which i already do.

On my own accord i decided to take an additional 400 mcg of folic acid (the multivitamin only has 400 mcg)..

I take (and have been since before TTC) prenatals from Whole Foods and a separate DHA supplement.

you could just take regular pre natals from OTC. Make sure they have DHA in them.

I took rx ones from my dr... so that's another route. My FAVORITE rx prenatals are Prenate Essential"... LOVE them!!

Re: Prenatal Vitamins

Yea, it wouldnt hurt so start taking prenatals. I was on the gummy prenatals but now that Im pregnant find the taste disgusting so I just went back to Walmart brand ones.

Re: Prenatal Vitamins

I have been taking them since before ttc... I would buy them from target. And then I got a prescription from my dr in August. So I am taking those... they told me it is good to take them before hand.
