prenatal question
I went to my annual exam and told my doctor that we were TTC around June. She asked what type of vitamins I take. I take a multi, 400mg folic acid and fish oil. She said that is fine. I asked her about a prenatal vitamin and she said that it was not necessary and if I wanted I could up my folic acid to 800mg. I don't know how I feel about this, so I would like to start taking prenatals...My question is since I am obviously not getting a prescription from her, what over the counter prenatals do you take/recommend? Thanks!

Re: prenatal question
GNC makes a good prenatal. Honestly though- you really only need the multi with extra folic acid until you get your BFP- the baby doesn't even draw any nutrients from you at least until 5-6 weeks pg.

Same here, he said the most important thing is to take Folic Acid..
I would just take 800mg of it....
I currently take multi from GNC (like it better than prenantals) which only has 400mg of folic but I take another 400mg of it....

Re: prenatal question
when i called to make my first appointment --- they told me to take an OTC prenatal vitamin that had 800 mg of folic acid --- i bought the one from target and have been fine with it --- i've been fine with them - take them right before i go to bed...
before when i told my dr that i was TTC - she told me to take a multi vitamin that as least had 400mg of folic acid - which i did!

Re: prenatal question
I was just told the same - that any OTC prenatal is fine - they have 400mcg of Folic Acid. Once I test positive they would switch me to 800-1000 mcg of folic acid.

Re: prenatal question
Thank you all--I feel better not having to worry about the prenatal until I am actually pregnant. Until then I will keep up with my multi and and extra 400 mg of folic acid.
