Preeclampsia
i had a dr. appt today at 31w6d. they said i had protein in my urine. my blood pressure was normal. i have noticed that my feet have been swollen for a few days but i also wore heals a few days ago so i thought that was why. they are making me do the 24-hour urine collection although my doctor said i can do it over the weekend since i REALLY didnt want to lug the jug around the city and at work .
so im thinking that its just preventative since my blood pressure was fine.
if anyone has had a similar situation (protein in urine but normal blood pressure) can you tell me if you had to do the 24 hour collection? also what were the results? were you dx with preeclampsia? if you were diagnosed with preeclampsia what happened next? did you have to deliver right away or was it managed?
TIA!

Re: Preeclampsia
The same thing happened to me at 35 wks but I Aldo had blood in my urine as well. I didnt do the 24 hr collection but had to pee in a cup again so they can send it to the lab. Turns out I had a bladder infection

Re: Preeclampsia
I had protein in my urine at 36 weeks. Blood pressure was slightly elevated and then it went back to normal. By 37 weeks my dr sent me to the hospital for a c-section because he was scared that my body would not be able to handle an induction due to the preeclampsia

Re: Preeclampsia
I did multiple 24 hr collections since my bp was high the whole 3rd tri. Never protein in my urine and never developed pre-e. Although I was induced because of the risk due to the high bp.

yup and just to give you a heads up - not meaning to scare you, just want you to know my story just incase it happens to you so you dont freak - they gave me antibiotics and a week after i was done with them i found blood in the toilet and went to L&D. they said i had a uti and gave me more antiobiotics. well the next morning i was admitted to the hospital (dont know if you saw my posts) and they couldnt really tell me if i was passing kidney stones or just had a really bad infectionl so now i am on antibiotifs again

Re: Preeclampsia
I was on bedrest for 5 weeks being monitored for this and ended up with it when I delivered...I had high blood pressure at one out of 2 appointments a week but no other symptoms..I did that collection at least 3 times over the weekends and when my proteins went up from where they were, I was induced...my blood pressure wouldn't come down during the induction and I had a csection...it's better you be monitored because it can sneak up on you and you want you and the baby safe..I am not trying to scare you..if you have ANY questions, ask!

Re: Preeclampsia
I had protein in my unrine for a few weeks before blood pressure became an issue... it was 32 when I had a trace of protein, more by 34 weeks, by 35 weeks BP was on the rise, even more protein and I was super swollen, 36 weeks daily monitoring, 36w6d said it was now officialy preeclampsia and had the babies via c-section.

Re: Preeclampsia
At my 31 week appointment, I was very swollen (MUCH more so than I had been the previous few weeks) and they found some protein in my urine. They asked me to do the 24 hour urine collection. We couldn't pick up the "jug" until the next day, so by the time I went in with it, they checked me again and said that my blood pressure was still normal that it could change overnight.
Low and behold, the NEXT day, my blood pressure went up (I saw some "floaters" or "stars" in my eyes, which is one of the signs and the OB asked me to come in to be monitored). Well, I was diagnosed with pre eclampsia, hospitalized and put on medicine. Went downhill VERY quickly and had my DS by emergency C/S the next day at 31w6d.
Thankfully my DS was healthy and now he's an almost 14 month old who has totally caught up weight and length wise.

Re: Preeclampsia
Yes it's either a bad infection or I was passing a stone. IMO if ur Bp is fine I wouldn't worry about pre-e
I am doing better thank u!

Re: Preeclampsia
Bp can change in an instant....better your doc is being proactive. I went to the doc on a Thursday and there was a little protein in my urine and I was swollen but my bp was only slightly elevated. The doc sent me home and wanted to see me again the following week. On that Sunday my bp went through the roof and I had a seizure due to eclampsia....emergency section done thatbday and baby was born at 30 weeks I wish my doc was more proactive

Re: Preeclampsia
I had 2 normal 24 hour urine collections with normal bp (dr did the collections because I had severe swelling). Then at 33 weeks 5 days my bp went up and I had protein, I had the babies the next day.
I agree with the PP it is great your dr is being proactive. Preeclampsia can creep up on you fast. In the mean time try to rest as much as you can.

Happened to me right around 32 weeks. I ended up delivering at 35.5 weeks due to preeclampsia. No real; issues during or after except for swelling

Re: Preeclampsia
A friend just had preeclampsia at 34 weeks. She had no signs of it at all until one morning she woke up with a head ache and was throwing up. They rushed her to L&D and she had an emergency C section due to preeclampsia.
IDK about the urine test. But just wanted to say look out for a headache and puking. IDK if you know that already.

Re: Preeclampsia
i got nervous about this because i was swelling extremely early!
i think other signs to look for besides swelling on your feet and ankles and the protein in your urine...
are headaches swelling of your hands and face
maybe its just a uti?

Re: Preeclampsia
when I did the 24 hour protein i was borderline this was in like early april .. then a week passed and i had more in my urine and more.. it just got worse.. so from the time they noticed the HBP it was like over a 3 week period where the pregnancy had to go to emergency c section.. belive me listen to the doc.. you don't want to mess with this..

I'm sorry I didn't see your reply before - I just kinda crash on this board every so often.
I did do the 24 hour collection and they didn't get the results until after I had already been admitted to the hospital and Dx with Preeclampsia since I developed the high blood pressure and had everything else already. Turns out I did have a high level of protein from the 24 hr collection (which they already knew from the in office test 5 days earlier).
But without the high BP, it's not preeclampsia so that was the last sign. Since my BP didn't go down after monitoring, I was admitted and put on magnesium (it opens up your veins etc. so you don't have a stroke or worse from the very high BP). They were hoping to keep me in the hospital for at least a week so could keep cooking, but my BP just kept climbing up and up and by the next morning I was VERY sick, couldn't see properly anymore and I was no longer even a candidate for an induction. They rushed me in for an emergency c/s when my BP went really high. Thankfully all turned out well in the end with my . I hope you are doing well!
