Preconception consultation
I just scheduled mine today for the 21st!
What goes on? Is it just discussion or an exam as well?
Did anyone bring their DH? Should I ask him to come?
Thanks!

Re: Preconception consultation
Honestly, I'm not sure. I haven't done this, nor do I plan on doing it. I simply spoke to my dr. about it at my last annual appointment and she went over some basic things. I guess your doctor may do something more in depth since the appointment is just for that - I'm no real help, sorry!

Re: Preconception consultation
My preconception appointment really started off when I had an annual OB/GYN appointment and I started to ask about going off the pill ect.....
My doctor said since we had time (I wasnt going to start TTC for a few more months) that if I wanted to I could go for the basic blood work that screened for certain genetic abnormalities--such as cystic fibrosis, fragile X syndrome ect.......
After MY blood work came back, I was in the "grey" area for fragile X and they asked for my husband to be screened and then they wanted to sent up a consultation appointment to discuss the results.
When DH blood work came back we went for the consultation and they went over all the blood work (which was all good thank god!) and then they did an entire family tree/history that covered nationality and medical.
I thought it was very informative and especially for me being such a worry wart---it was definitely reassuring in certain aspects.
It is everyone's choice whether or not they want to know what may or may not be at risk for your fetus/child if you get pregnant.

WOW! Sounds like you have a great doctor. Would u mind sharing where you go - you can fm me if u would rather. I was in the market for a new doctor a few months ago and although I like the new one I chose so far, I'm a little "eh" about the office on the whole.
As for a preconception appt - I had a regular exam beginning of July and told my doctor that altho we weren't "trying" at that point in time, we were thinking about it and were sort of taking the stance of "what happens, happens". He told me to start taking a womens multi vitamin with folic acid which I have since done.

Re: Preconception consultation
Mine also started at my annual when I mentioned that I wanted to come off the pill. and like mentioned above, my dr. went over family history and then sent me for blood work (it is a lot so be prepared!) then since all the results came back normal she said see you when you get 2 lines! I thought it was a great idea, I went by myself, but it completely put me at ease.
