Pre-school moms

Is your child expected to clean up after themselves in the bathroom (wipe, pull up pants, button, zip, etc.) without any assistance?

When my child was in pre-school, yes. The staff was not allowed to assist at all. It's against their regulations I believe, unless they are an actual daycare facility.

Yes, she is expected to wipe, pull her up panties and shorts/skort, flush and wash her hands.

Odd she won't wipe at home. But she also won't get off the toilet until she's clean.

Re: Pre-school moms

I'm a little upset about this especially since it was never mentioned at registration or any of the papers that were sent to me. In fact, they never even stated that the children had to be potty trained (but DD is).

Re: Pre-school moms

Yes, our school will help with this stuff. But any school that will help with this HAS to be daycare licensed. Is yours?

Re: Pre-school moms

A few of the schools I looked at did require that which I get (sort of). But I have yet to meet a 3 or 4 year old that knows how to wipe themselves well Chat Icon Chat Icon. I was also surprised how many schools wanted them fully potty trained for the 3 year old programs. I know quite a few kids that are potty trained by 3 but I know a lot more that are not. The place DD goes to has a 2-3 year old group where they are not required to be fully potty trained and the staff does change diapers, however, once the kid is using the potty they are supposed to wipe themselves. No help after that. I've come to terms with the fact that I will have a lot of extra laundry to do Chat Icon Chat Icon but my main concern is possible infections since again, most 3 years old I know don't wipe well or in the right direction.

YES! Exactly! Im afraid of infections. DD is the youngest in her class (she won't be 3 til the end of December) and when she "wipes" herself, its more like a pat. The building she is in is more like a pre-school and after school. There is a daycar but it is located at another site

They will take them to the bathroom but not go into the stall. I was told they will help with buttons and pulling pants up if the child comes out with them around their ankles (she is in a 3 yr program). They will not wipe or help wipe in any way. They will assist with zippers and buttons.

Yes I agree 3yr / 4yr dont wipe great and yes she's been a little red down there. But it is teaching her to take care of herself, right? Its gonna happen sooner or later so I'm ok with it. But yes, I knew going in.

3yrs had to be Potty trained to be in preschool otherwise they were in the toddler class with other 18m - 3yr olds. AJ is a late August bday but I didn't want her in that class so yes we Potty Trained. For me there was a difference between toddler and preschool.

Re: Pre-school moms

I checked with the director and she Said nys law prohibits them from helping in the bathroom in anyway. I mean I get that and that she is going to have to learn anyway I guess I would have felt better knowing in advance. The rule and procedure book only mentioned if there was an accident the child would have to be picked up and changed
