Pre Natal Vitamins
I'm planning on going off BCP and TTC in two months. When should I start taking pre natal vitamins? My doctor gave me a prescription but said that I don't have to start them until I go off BCP. I've heard that you should start them a few months before TTC. I'm taking a multivitamin now (when I remember!)

I would just start taking them after you go off BCP.

Is there any difference between prescribed pre-natal vitamins and the pre-natal vitamins you can buy off the shelf in the durg sotre?

I would just take the multivitamins you have until they run out. Then switch over to prenatals. I don't think there is a big difference between regular multivatmins and prenatal vitamins.

I think it'd be fine to take over the counter pre-natals. That's what I did when I was BFing. During pregnancy, I took the prescribed Prima Care but later I switched to Rite Aids pre-natals.

I would start taking a multivitamin with at least 400 mcg of folic acid or prenatals (OTC is fine) at least 3 months before TTC.

I just checked my multi-vitamin and it has the recommended amount of folic acid. So, I guess I'll stay on that until I go off BCP and then switch to the prescribed pre natals.
