Potty training a child with an iron clad bladder
We're on day 2 of the three day method. DD has been up for over 4 hours now and has not peed aside from some tiny dribbles in her underwear twice. She had an accident around 2 am and then was dry this morning. I'm losing my mind over here. She barely drinks and pretty much refuses to sit on the potty for more than a second or two. What the heck do I do with her?

When my son was holding it all day - I decided he wasn't ready and gave it a break. I didn't want him to get an infection

Can you feed her tons of potato chips & other salty foods? that way, she'll drink more and therefore pee more ... hopefully ...
good luck!

I've been trying but she's not a snacker. She also doesn't like anything but water so the fun juices aren't helping either.

She's 28 months. I know she's capable but the holding it isn't surprising. She doesn't go a lot in general. I just really want her trained before I have a second which is in 4 months. If it doesn't work I can try again in a few months but I think it will be tough for me to be running her to the potty constantly when I'm enormous.

Understood, but I think if she's dribbling, she doesn't know she's going. And that's important to be successful. Or does she dribble and then tell you she has to go??

Re: Potty training a child with an iron clad bladder
My daughter did this on her first attempt to potty train, she wouldn't sit on the potty. I quit after a day and a half. 2 months later we tried again the first 2 days of potty training she sat on the potty but never went. She drank water and had watermelon etc... I put her in a pull up at nap and night time to let her 'relieve' herself because I was scared of infection. After the 2nd day it clicked and she started going in the potty.

She definitely knows when she dribbles but she tries to stop herself (she'll grab herself and say oh no). Even yesterday when she had bigger accidents she never got a drop in the potty bc as soon as I grab her to sit she'll stop going.

Potty training a child with an iron clad bladder
Well she finally went. She had another dribble and I was ready to give up. I asked if she wanted a diaper and she said no but then she got hysterical and refused the undies too. She finally lost control when she lost it entirely and she got all but a little in the potty. I'm just so relieved that she got it out. Hopefully that will help get over her fear of going in there.

Expect meltdowns. The week after we did the 3 day method my DS was a beast.....We never had to many timeouts!!!!! I wondered where my well behaved child went. I think this is a big control issue for them and they have a hard time with the change!!!!
Hang in there!!!! I do think she's ready if she knows to hold it!!!

Thanks. I hope the meltdowns are extremely temporary! She's definitely exhausted so I know that's a big part of it. Halfway through the three days and I really hope it works.

Re: Potty training a child with an iron clad bladder
I just went through this with my daughter three weeks ago. My DH and I were jokingly calling her a camal to each other since she was holding for HOURS and she too refused to sit on the potty. We did the three day and boy on day 2 I was really wanting to give in and put diapers back on. But we stuck with it and I would say it took her an extra day and by day 4 she went back to school and did great. Only had 1 accident. Then the day after that she had no accidents and has been doing amazing. Waking up dry and telling us when she has to go.
Just stick with it! I firmly believe the 3 day is the best way to go. No turning back. You can do it Momma!

Re: Potty training a child with an iron clad bladder
So keep offering drinks. For my daughter we gave her her favorite drink which she has once every few weeks and then letting her have accidents if she didn't want to go on the potty. A couple of times going in the pants and she won't want to have accidents. Potty training was so much harder then expected (like everything else parenting related! )

Wow I just wrote a similar post! DS is holding it for 3-4 hours also and won't sit on the potty. No advice but know you're not alone!
