Maybe a dumb question, but how is a site like this run? I mean, does someone get paid to oversee it? Or someone just owns the site and makes money off of the ads? (Which I feel like are mostly old and outdated now too!)

I know. I thought about that recently. I'm glad that I'm friends on FB with a bunch of people on here, but there are some that I'm not friends with on FB that I would kinda miss!

It depends. Someone owns it, don't know if it is the same person that 'runs' it. The running could be outsourced to a hosting company. Yes, the site owner usually makes money on advertisements, but don't know if that is actually a working revenue stream for this site anymore.
Considering the site has been down for DAYS the past few weeks, it doesn't seem that its really being cared for. I mean, it doesn't cost anything to setup a site monitor to make sure the site is live. Maybe they only have support 9-5 Mon/Fri.

I've thought that too :( I really like the anonymity of this site.
Also, I have so many recipes from this site that I've saved over the years... My paint colors... everything is on here! And now that the search feature isn't working... Ugh, not sure how I will retrieve everything.
I feel like it's the end of an era.

I agree with everyone. LIF is NOTHING like it was just a few years ago. The boards are soooooo slow, threads just linger for days, so many people have left, and half the times the site is barely working right. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point LIF just goes away. Seems like it's heading in that direction unfortunately.

Right but it's been like this for years and it's still here.
People are acting like it will be gone tomorrow- like you won't be able to get on it and the site will be closed.

Yes less and less people are on the boards , I think its the same for LIW if i'm not mistaken although I have not been on that site for years. I like this site because you can post while remaining anonymous.

I also like how it's organized.
You can go over to fashion and beauty to talk about hair, makeup, clothes.
Celebrity board is great for looking at celeb pics.
The facebook groups are just big mismoshes of crap
