portable Air Conditioners

Does any one have one? How do you vent it? Tell me everything!

We need to put something in our basement. We would put a window AC but the I think the window is too small for anything and the well around it would probably make it difficult for us as well. I think our only option is a portable.... anyone else have a similar situation?

My MIL has a portable in the basement. You still need to vent it out the window but it is done with a flexible duct.

Yup, ours in vented out the window. It is pretty quiet and does a good job of cooling off the entire living room.

my mom has one in her basement apartment - it is vented through the wall. works really well!

its a portable unit with a vent that looks like a dryer hose and it goes through the wall - would need someone handy to install

I should add... we have one of those REALLY annoying windows that you pull in to open... i guess we will have to get creative!

Re: portable Air Conditioners

I have one that I used before CAC. I had casement windows (hinged on the side, with a crank to open it). I used the plastic insert for most of the window, then cut plywood triangles to fit in the opening at the top and bottom of the window opening when the window was cranked open enough to put the vent in it.

Worked fine for over 10 years.... Chat Icon

No, it was about a foot from the wall. Just enough for the exhaust vent tube to bend up to the window. The vent goes straight back, then you need to curve it up.

Also, get one that sends the water out of the exhaust automatically. Some have a tank on the bottom that has to be emptied manually. I have one with a tube that pumps the water out of the tube, which is inside the exhaust vent, so it can run 24/7 and never has to be emptied by hand.
