Portable air conditioner?

Does anyone have anything like this? We're looking for something for DD's room and can't fit a regular AC in the windows we have in the house, so DH wants me to research portable ones. There's a fan in there right now, but her room gets so hot during the summer.

Anyone?

TIA!

Chelle, I want to know about this too! DH saw one of them in Home Depot the other day and it was $450. It sits on the floor and looks like a humidifier. You can take it from room to room.

ETA: If you search "portable air conditioner" on the Home Depot website a bunch of them come up. Here is the cheapest one they offer.

PC Richard's has a few advertised in today's paper. starting at $400 I think

the cheapest one cools 300 sq feet - the size of a big bedroom

QVC has quite a selection and purchaser's post reviews on their site. I know they JUST had one last week as their Today's special. www.qvc.com

I saw one at Home depot when we went to go get our living room one. Was about $350 if I remember correctly.

I don't know if it was the brand - but my mom tried one for her sewing room and it was AWFUL! she ended up going back to get a window one. Maybe they are better (this was 2 years ago), but keep all the packaging in case it doesn't work, so you can return it.

Re: Portable air conditioner?

Try and get one that pumps the water outside through a tube. We have one of those. That way, you don't have to empty the bin of water every few hours, or have it stop running in the middle of the night because the tank filled up.

Ours is about 5 years old, but we love it.

Re: Portable air conditioner?

Our windows don't allow for a regular A/C, so we purchased a portable last year from HD - was about $200.

We use it every night - on very humid nights, it turns off when the water needs to be emptied, but for the most part, this usually doesn't happen. We have it set to 74 at night.

Re: Portable air conditioner?

We have one! We bought it almost 2 years ago when we were renting our first house. The windows in that house did not allow for regular AC. We bought our house & still use the portable one in our master bedroom. We are hoping to get Central Air installed this Fall but the portbale does the trick until that happens. We also figured why should we buy a window AC when we have one that works already.

Re: Portable air conditioner?

Some are A/C and heater combined. It may be something to think about. If your furnace stops working for some reason, you have a backup heat source. After our furnace stopped one time, I wish we had that option.....

We have one for our finished basement. It works great!

ETA: You do need access to a window to vent it though.
