Re: Pooping in tub

Caiden only did this once, but he was around 2!!! He hasn't done it since. But when he was younger he had peed in the tub a couple of times. Until they understand how yucky it is to do that, there's not really much you can do. Unless you wait until they "go" beforehand in their diaper and then put them in the tub. A pain, but maybe it would work. Good luck!

You would think that if I let him "go" beforehand it would stop it but unfortunately that didn't work for us. DH just got done changing him last night and I said rather than put on a new diaper I'll just give him a bath (it was earlier than usual)............so he had just pooped and than pooped again in the tub!

Ava only pooped once in the tub and I almost died. First, I wasn't sure because I heard her straining but I didn't see anything. So I lifted her up and sure enough there it was. thank god it was a floater and not mushChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

DS has done this a few times. And of course, it is just as we are finishing up.

He's also pooped in the towel after we have finished b/f we got a new diaper on.

Sometimes, I think he is laughing at us!

Re: Pooping in tub

it depends on how much water your putting in the tub my pediatrician said if Olivia has trouble pooping fill the water to above the navel and have it luke warm and that helps so maybe lower the water level. Olivia has done it a couple time in the water. not a big deal.

I know this sounds crazy but when Maddie did it (about 10 months old), I started putting her on the potty before her baths. I would mimic her straining sounds she made & she would go both before her bath. It may have been because she had an older sibling, but it's worth a try.

I believe this is the real reason children do this. My pediatrician has said the same things.

Last night the water barely covered his thighs. It was just going to be a quicky but after washed him I let him play for a few minutes. I'll have to pay attention from now onChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Pooping in tub

My oldest used to pee the second he got in the water. So I started making him go on the potty before he got in as the water was running.

This was something I was always afraid of since I remember my little brother doing it when he was a baby. Luckily DS never did it!Chat Icon

Sorry, I didn't read her explaination carefully enough...it really does not have much to do with the actual level of the water...just that sitting in luke warm water helps to relax the muscles of their bowel, and that is why poop happens easier in the tub. My ped has suggested sitting the child in luke warm water if/when they get constipated.

OK this post makes me glad my daughter is always constipated and that we opt for the shower over the bath.
Have you tried showering with him? I let her sit on the floor of the shower and play while I shower then wash her up.

Re: Pooping in tub

Does he go #2 regularly? Something about the warm water in the bathtub, relaxes them and helps move things along, or he may just think it's funny Chat Icon
