Pool party for a two year old - what do you think???

DS will be two at the end of July. Our back yard is all pool. We want to have a kid only party - all his buddies.

Is having a pool party to much to ask the parents? They will have no choice but to also go swimming with their kid.

Do I keep the party short 2-3:30 as if its at a place like gymboree? Or an all afternoon event like a normal back yard party?

Personally, I wouldn't want to bring my 2yo DD to a pool party, especially in a backyard. I would spend the entire party stressing about DD's safety, and there are no professional lifeguards there.

DS is 5, and he's going to a pool party at Saf-T-Swim in a few weeks. That I'm OK with, since he's a bit older, and there are professional instructors there and everything.

If that meant I had to wear a bathing suit, then I'd have to decline the invitation. Chat Icon

I know, from working at Saf-T-Swim, that some parents even had parties for 2 year olds at Saf-T-Swim. Most of the kids didn't go in the water and the parents didn't want to go in with them. It was stupid for having the pool party, IMO. Wait til about 4 or 5, at least!

I had a pool party for both of Julia's 1st and 2nd b-day and everyone had a lot of fun, the parents went in the pool with there kids so we didn't have to worry about anyone just jumping in and I also have a huge gate with a lock around my pool so when everyone was out we locked it up. We had other Entertainment at the party so we didn't have to spend the whole time in the pool.

I like the idea, but not for a 2 year old.
It's a lot to ask of parents to get into your pool.
2 years old is VERY young to have a pool party, and we had pool parties almost my whole life, and my mom said it was agony until everyone left.....
You really don't want the liability either......

It really depends who you are inviting. One of the kids in Damien's class had a pool party at the Y and the let us know on the invitation we had to go in with them. Only 3 kids went (with their dad's BTWChat Icon Chat Icon ) No one wanted to be in a bathing suit with a bunch of people they only knew casually. If it is close friends and their children you would probably get a bigger turn out.

I am having one sort of. If it is warm enough, the pool will be up and running. But the kids range from 2-6 and there will be adults there too.

Re: Pool party for a two year old - what do you think???

I had a backyard Luau for dd's 1st birthday and everyone had a lot of fun. This year I was going to use the theme "pool party". I don't think it's a big deal. It's July most of my guests were jumping in the pool with or without the kids. I also had a bouncing thing, two kiddie pools, and a jungle gym for the kids.
A pool party is fine especially if you're inviting family.

If I had a 2yr old, I would go and think its a good idea, even knowing I'd have to watch my kid like a hawk Chat Icon
