pool fence question
so here is the some what short version....
due to sellers needing a co for the pool for us to purchase the house they had a guy come to inspect it.....he notice that fence that surrounds the whole back yard did not match the survey, so he ordered the sellers to remove the back piece of fence and made them put a fence up around the pool..... so they put a picket style wood fence all around the pool and the back of the yard is open.....
fast forward...we bought the house and r having the back piece of fence put back up bc we have lots of friends with dogs....so now technically the entire yard and pool will be fenced in so i want to remove the wood fence around the pool and save for a safety mesh fence for next year.....that said my family is saying to keep the wood fence(which is completely unfinished and unstained and not water protected) until we have the money for the other fence.....my side is we have no children and i want to enjoy the view of the pool....

Re: pool fence question
If there are any DC within a 2 mile radius, you have to assume they might climb your fence and fall in the pool. You may also have other people's kids in the backyard that may fall in. I say keep the fence up until you can replace it. There's no money or effort involved in keeping it for a little while. There *is* time and/or money involved in removing the fence.

Nothing, but it gives you a better defense if there is a lawsuit. It suc%s that you need to think about these things on your own property, but that's the way our society works....

Re: pool fence question
Well we just put a pool in and are making the same decision. We decided we are going to fence the pool in also (our yard is already fenced for the dogs). DS is only 9 months, but we'll be having family over and just want the peace of mind. plus we need to keep the dogs out I knew with the mesh fence I could get lazy about putting it back up, but with the wooden one and a gate it's always closed.

Re: pool fence question
We just have our yard fenced in, We don't have a fence around the pool, there is not alot of room to put a fence around the pool.
My sister was over and was very paranoid about her daughter falling in, but we were all watching her, and was never out of our sight.
I am also nervous about my dog, he is old, blind etc, but i never let him outside unattended, but its always in the back of my mind.
A neighbor stopped by and let her daughter out of the stroller and she almost fell in the pool. Very scary, then again this neighbors kid almost cracked her head open on the pavers, so anything can be dangerous.

Re: pool fence question
I would keep the fence until you can get what you want. Goldenrod is 100% correct in his thinking as awful as it sounds.

Re: pool fence question
Unless you have a loop lock cover that someone can walk across I would not be taking down that fence around the pool.
I was talking to someone in Leslie's pools and he had a loop lock cover. He had 7, SEVEN kids walk across his pool (he didn't have a fence around it) and they weren't his kids. His dog also walked across it. Imagine if he had a water bag cover and no fence.
Even for the safety of your friends pets. What if they are running and not paying attention and land in the pool. Not all dogs enjoy it and if you have a liner pool the nails could rip it.
I have a fence around my property and a fence around my pool (old chainlink). My DH want's to take it down but I refuse (I do have little children though).
Something else to consider is that if you have parties that kids might be at even older children you don't want to have to worry about something happening to them (here is a post from Monday that was on the parenting board regarding this topic child falling into pool )
