Pond Question

We bought a house this year with a koi pond. Well last week, we had a predator eat a fish and this week another! Anyone have any ideas on how to stop this?
Thanks,

Re: Pond Question

you have to put a net ontop of the pond and try to find out what kind of animal is getting in there..

Re: Pond Question

My sister put a HaveAHeart trap in the yard near the pond...she had the nets but birds died in the nets so she took them out. She caught a cat and a raccoon in the trap. The cat she took to a shelter and the coon she took to the woods in West Hills.

My dad had a net on top & he "tied" it down w/ rocks at the base...I believe it was a raccoon.

Keep the rocks around the edges loose so when the animals goes on its uneasy most do not like that.. put small sharp rocks around the edges of the net .. You dont know what it is getting in?

Re: Pond Question

you can use netting, or they have sensor sprinklers that if something goes near the pond it will go off.

Re: Pond Question

I was in Starkie Bros. nursery today and they have decoy fish that you can put in the pond to throw off predators. I'm assumiing they would get the plastic fish and leave the real fish alone.

Re: Pond Question

Try using metal chicken wire with less than one inch grids. The animals can't reach past and expand the metal
