Polyvisol/ Vitamin D drops
Hi
Do any of you give this to your infant?
If so how often?

Re: Polyvisol/ Vitamin D drops
These are just those brown, nasty smelling vitamins, right?
Doctor prescribed them at 6 months...we give them to her once a day, at night, during her bath (so if any comes out, it doesn't get all over everything). They are very staining!

Re: Polyvisol/ Vitamin D drops
We started those at 6 months. Since it stains so much, I put it in his morning meal.

Re: Polyvisol/ Vitamin D drops
Thanks.
I only ask because my aunt was telling me how she gave these to her kids while they were a baby.
You have to start at 6 months? I thought these were over the counter, not prescribed.

I'm EBFing, which is why I was told to start them right away. The drops we have are OTC.

Same here. We started them when DD was 4 weeks. She gets .5mL a day.

Re: Polyvisol/ Vitamin D drops
Yup, they're OTC.
We didn't give them to Daneille until later (9 months) and that was more or less at the pressure of my MIL to give her vitamins (LOL) I was BFing and her Ped said that if you BF, the baby will get all the vitamins he/she needs.
Also, I think some children need it for the floride. If you live in the city limits, our Ped said our water has enough floride in it (Naussau/Suffolk don't). So, we were giving her some water in her juice when she was ready for juices, as well as just water with one of her snacks.
HTH's.

So does mine...along with tylenol and the antibiotocs she was on. As soon as she sees the dropper, she opens her mouth really wide...

Re: Polyvisol/ Vitamin D drops
Thanks again.
I remember the ped encouraging me to use them if I were to continue breastfeeding. Unfortunately I had to stop due to not producing and a variety of issues.
I will ask her if I should still give them to DC.

Thankfully DD opens her mouth wide for those disgusting drops! Sometimes I forget to give them to her...
