POLL: Should we put a gate on both sides of our house?

So we're definitely putting a gate down the one side of our house for entry.

The other side is where our oil tank is. Should we put a gate there too? The oil company said if there was no gate they'd just throw the hose over and walk around.

So - both gates?

I say yes to both. My reasoning - if we don't do a gate - I'd want to do some nice landscaping and A - the oil guy might trample it and B - the oil guy might ruin the fence with the dirty hose.

I would do both sides. I wouldn't want my landscape or fence ruined by the oil guy. Chat Icon

definitely do both sides - you would regret only doing 1 down the road probably.

Re: POLL: Should we put a gate on both sides of our house?

When we redid our fence I only wanted 1 by the side of our garage/entry door. DH wanted another one on the other side. I thought it would be useless. While we do use it less indeed, it turns out very useful for mowing, water hose, etc... I don't have to go all the way to the other side of the yard to go to the front yard. We keep both gates lock anyway so I am not worried about safety with an additional gate.

I would have said 1 side but since the oil tank is on the other I say definitely go for both sides

With both houses we own we have two gates, one on each side.

if you have the opportunity to have 2 gates put in, I would do it.

without a doubt 2 gates! We have a similar set up & let me tell you, you don't want the oil hose thrown over your fence. Even from the delivery guy going in & out of the gate, the gate is dirty with oil that we have to wipe it down.

Re: POLL: Should we put a gate on both sides of our house?

I agree with the above posters. There's pretty much no downside to a 2nd gate, but several downsides to not putting one up.

Even if the oil person is very careful and miraculously doesn't damage any landscaping, that heavy hose over time is going to damage the fence.

Even if it's not used often, there will be times when it's just a pain having to walk around the house just to get to the side by the tank.
