I realized yesterday that I try not to pray for frivilous things in case I reallllllly need to pray for something important later. Am I the only one who does selective prayers?

Re: Poll
I pray every day, about EVERYTHING in my life. I believe that prayer helps you find the path God has chosen for you in life. Through prayer, if it is God's will, everything good will come to you. I don't believe that you can ever use up your prayers because I belive that if it is his will, God only wants the best for us in all things and for everyone. I especially believe that prayers for others are very powerful and are acts of mercy that bring you blessings.
Ok, I sound like a bit of a fanatic right now

Re: Poll
Well, I have never asked specifically for prayers, but if I did, it would only be for someone dear to me who was suffering/dealing with tragedy, or if I had a really serious health concern of my own. I don't think I would do it for something like a job or a house, but that's just me.
ETA: Beyond the boards, I don't pray often IRL, but if I did, it would be for the same reasons above.

Re: Poll
Same here. I always seem to pray when I need something to happen (or NOT happen).
I do, however, try to remember to give thanks when my prayers are answered.

Re: Poll
i pray primarily to give thanks, asking for stuff is secondary. i do ask, though.
ETA: "stuff" means jobs and homes, not bags, shoes and sports team wins!

Re: Poll
I give thanks every day. I don't pray for things like, "Help me get those shoes," but anything that is effecting me, my fam, or friends, I pray about.

I didn't realize that I did it until you brought it up. I'm not religious at all but I do believe in God and when I do pray, I do it first to give thanks, then to ask for things for others and lastly ask for things for myself, though I try not to ask for anything for myself very often.

I don't think I have ever asked anyone I don't know to pray for me.....I have asked for baby dust and crossed fingers but I don't think specifically prayers except from family and close friends....

Re: Poll
I don't think we get a designated # of prayers, but I tend to pray for the more important things.
I think I pray more for other people too, because I have faith that God will provide me with what I need, whether it be a good outcome or the strength to get through the difficult things. Does that make sense?

That's not what I am saying.
What I am saying is to pray that your favorite team wins, or pray that you win the lottery..instead of prayers of thanks to God or prayers for something that is REALLY important (sick, ect)
I am NOT tlaking AT ALL about anyone asking for ANY kinds of prayers on these boards.

This is a great question!
I was having a religous debate with a coworker (yes, we're both in HR ) and came to the conclusion that in my religion (Catholicism) we pray to Saints for various "smaller" things, and save our prayers to God for bigger things like illness, death, birth, etc.
OOH thats a good point! I didn't think about defining WHO the prayer was going to.

Re: Poll
I believe that if you pray everyday you are more likely to have your prayers answered...then if you only pray when you need something.

Re: Poll
I have to say that I'm not really a religious person to begin with so basically I'm not a prayer as much as I am a good wisher & hoper for people around me. I root for people. I guess some people would call it prayer- I don't pray for things like making the train or a team to win. When I hear of a bad situation, I hope with all my heart that it turns around.
Strangely enough, I take great care in birthday wishes & Christmas wishes. Mainly because I have a great mom who always made sure they came true.
