Plus-sized Moms-to-be, please come in...

I am starting to look around at some of the websites that sell plus-sized maternity clothing. Let me tell you, I'm getting discouraged and pretty frustrated...

MOST of the popular places don't carry plus-sized maternity clothes. I found some cute things at JCPenney and Motherhood (though Motherhood's stock is VERY limited, and honestly, very insulting).

Where are you guys buying your clothes?

Thanks... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Beth,
I got alot of stuff at Motherhood believe it or not, their size XL is really big. I bought several sweat suits there that I've lived in my entire pregnancy. Other than that, Kohls carries a line called "Oh Baby" that is like a cheap motherhood brand. I found some great strechy pants and tops there too. Old Navy also carries some plus sized maternity clothes. You gotta search through their sales rack but the deals are amazing!

Hope that helps!!Chat Icon

Most of my stash is from JCPenney and Motherhood.
Lane Bryant also has maternity online now too.

I bought a lot of stuff at Target when I was pregnant and when I was there recently I noticed they had a lot of very cute plus-size maternity clothes...and it's pretty affordable!

Re: Plus-sized Moms-to-be, please come in...

I'm worried about this too. Lane Bryant has some okay stuff online and JCpenney too. I'm hoping since I will be pregnant mostly in the spring/summer/early fall that I can get away with the same clothes for a long time. At least that's what I'm telling myself. LOL.

In my Target I haven't seen any plus-sized stuff. Which location did you guys see it in?

We'll find good stuff ladies, no worries. Chat Icon

Re: Plus-sized Moms-to-be, please come in...

Let me tell you, it s^cked!!!!!! You are due later than I was (I was end of August) but I can give you tips I figured out.

I bought maternity tank tops from Old Navy in 8 different colors. BEST DECISION EVER!!!!!!!!!! They stretched with me and I could keep on wearing button down shirts over it (obviously not buttoned) This way, I didn't have to buy a bunch of different shirts. And they had $5 shipping on whatever you ordered, no matter how much!!! And even though I hate showing my arms, wearing those tanks in the summer was GLORIOUS!!!!!

Also, I found that the fashion with the high waist and flowing material over the belly really helped. I was able to buy many non-maternity things at plus size stores.

I do have to say: don't buy many things until you are getting close to using them (like formal dresses or shirts/pants for work.) Everybody grows differently and it's best to shop close to your event.

Re: Plus-sized Moms-to-be, please come in...

I have bought clothing from Old Navy, JcPenney, Motherhood, Lane Bryant and Ann Taylor Loft. I was also able to wear a lot of my non-maternity shirts since plus sized shirts are cut differently.

The best thing I have purchased anywhere is definitely the...
SECRET FIT BELLY PANTS. The most comfortable pants EVER. Save yourself time and money and buy them now. You won't regret it.

I have bought regular clothes from Lane Bryant so far, I just went up a size. They have lots of empire waist tops so they are perfect!! I haven't ventured out to the other stores since it's not needed yet but I am dreading it too!!

Re: Plus-sized Moms-to-be, please come in...

I got most of my pants and tops from motherhood. I actually went one day out to the outlet in riverhead and I found they had a pretty good selection. Also Sears has plus size maternity and I ordered things from jcpennys. I was recently in dress barn and I was able to get a few things....because of this baby doll trend going on. A lot of tops gather under the chest and are flowey so that helped too. Also I just went to Avenue and got a few 3/4 length t-shirts in 2 sizes bigger than I normally wear and they are working out great. Im 37 weeks preg. and can't wait to return to regular clothes!!!!

I've never seen plus sized maternity clothes either! Actually, before being preggo, I would be annoyed because the Liz Lange maternity clothes were always mixed in with the plus sized things!

Yeah - the Motherworks (Motherhood Maternity) Outlet in Tanger has a decent sized Plus section in the back. They usually have cute stuff there - give it a try! Chat Icon

Re: Plus-sized Moms-to-be, please come in...

Thanks for all the suggestions!!

I just literally can't BELIEVE, in 2008, where something like 50% of women wear a size 14 and larger--we have this hideous selection of maternity clothes to choose from. It's sickening.

Motherhood does have some cute stuff, and I do plan on buying 2 or 3 pairs of the Secret Fit belly pants, but I resent the fact that the "regular sized" ones are 16.98 and the plus-size ones are 39.98. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I've learned from looking at the market that plus-sized women apparently are never supposed to become pregnant. And if they do, they have to dress like an 80 year-old, and drop a wad of cash doing it.

Anyone want to quit their job and start a business with me????? Chat Icon

I noticed when I ordered from JCPenney.com, they had a choice of maternity or plus-size maternity for the tops at least. You might want to browse there, the prices are pretty decent too.

I suspect those are 2 different styles of pants.... I'm fairly sure the capris I bought were only a few $ more than regular size ones Chat Icon

Truly, it hasn't been bad at all for me so far. (I'm boarderline between regular and plus.... generally I wear regular tops and plus bottoms.) I have found bottoms quite easily. I highly recommend the motherhood american star jeans (more $ than the others but worth it) and the secret belly fit pants/capris.... both were very flattering and comfy. Motherhood T-shirts are also great... very nice quality and fit....

It just took me a few weeks to get used to a new shopping routine... and yeah, there's more internet shopping than before, but if you already tried the style on in a shop, fit is no longer an issue.... I think motherhood shops also now accept online returns Chat Icon

good luck! Hopefully, you'll be like me and find that it's actually fun maternity shopping after you get used to the new routine Chat Icon

Re: Plus-sized Moms-to-be, please come in...

I bought a lot of my maternity clothes at old navy but I am just at the plus size level so I don't know if they are good for all plus size women. I think their maternity pants go up to 18. I can tell you my favorite maternity pants are Old Navy and for tops I just buy XL at a lot of these places. Target has some cute things and I have found some cute tops at Motherhood but the pants just never seem to fit me right there.

Also believe it or not, Sears has some very nice maternity clothes. And they do carry a plus size line also. Obviously they don't have as many choices in plus size but they do have some things.

Re: Plus-sized Moms-to-be, please come in...

I am 10w6d and my pants are not fitting, I went to Walmart this weekend and bought a pair of black stretchy jeans with elastic waist, one size bigger than I usually wear. They will do me well for awhile, I'll probably go back and get a pair in blue too, they were only $16.
