Pls. help, constipation issues 3.5 year old ...updated with questions for Miralax users
so, my dd, never really had a problem going #2 then she hadn't gone for 5 days, I called dr. gave enema (wow - - alot came out) and dr. said if it happens again to come in. I really don't think it is the food she is eating, I mean it could be, but she says it hurts so she holds it in. Now it has been 5 days again and we are going to dr. tonight, but just wanted to see from BTDT moms, if anyone else deals with this. She is in preschool and I don't think she likes to go there, (open stalls) so she holds it in (this is my guess) I bought stool softnener, but will speak to dr. first, not sure if that will even work, maybe they will suggest a safe laxative?

NEW QUESTION -
Dr. gave us miralax to use - how soon after you give does it work ? We have 1/2 cap last night and still nothing.

My DC (3 and 20 months) are in daycare 3 days a week and neither of them will go at school. They both hold it and often get constipated. They both use Miralax daily to help.

thank you ! Do they go at school when using that stuff? is it a softener or laxative? I will ask the dr. about it.

My sis and I both had these problems with our kids , I used pear juice ( worked like a charm) and she used Miralax ( also worked)

Thank you, I also tried prune juice, she only took 1/2 a cup - nothing at all, tried massage too !

Prune juice never worked for my dd, only the pear juice ! I can only find pear juice at waldbaums in the baby section ,it is from gerber , def. try it !

this worked wonders on my 2.5 yr old...on 2 separate occasions !!! worked within minutes! I sat her on the potty right after we did it and she had the urge to go immediately!

DS only responds to a full cap of miralax- he has one every day- sometimes every other day.
Also, he eats stonyfield yougurt with acidophulus and prunes- all together he becomes more regular.

My DD has terrible constipation issues. She was just put on Miralax about one month or so ago, daily usage.
She started with 1/4 capful, that didnt work. We are currently on 1/2 capful daily and it works great.
To answer your question, expect it to work within a day or two. Nothing immediate will happen.

It is both. It will soften the poop. They can go at anytime of the day, esp after eating. But it the dose isn't too much, they won't have to RUN to the bathroom, kwiM?
