Re: Please settle a debate between DH and I

The safest way is in the fridge. However, I find it takes far too long & I don't plan that far ahead. I leave it on the counter on a plate in the a.m., and as soon as I see it's defrosted, I stick it back in the fridge until I'm ready to cook it that evening.

Honestly though, as long as the meat is wrapped, I don't see the difference between leaving it on the counter and leaving it in the microwafe. It's still at room temperature either way.

I agree. i prefer to do it in the fridge if i have time. otherwise i'll leave it on the counter - but not during the summer or if i'm gone all day.

I don't really see a difference between leaving it on the counter or in the microwave - other than if its in the microwave you might have a tendency to forget its in there because the door is closed and you can't see it.
I just think it's weird to keep something raw in there that you're not cooking.. but i don't see the harm in it i guess Chat Icon

I leave it out on the counter to defrost.

I don't have a problem with that at all.

the fridge takes way to long and I don't have that kind of patience. Chat Icon

I don't own a microwave so that is a moot point.

Ditto (except I own a microwave, it is essential to toddlerhoodChat Icon )

In the fridge, or if it's wrapped well, in a container filled with cold water.

Those methods allow the bad bacteria to grow the slowest, and keep the meat safe - but in all honesty, as long as you cook it thoroughly, you're going to kill the germs eventually anyway.
