PLEASE READ ME, HELP REQUIRED!

This is going to sound long, so I apologize in advance but thank you for your efforts to get through this.

DH restores classic muscle cars as a hobby. He has been restoring a '69 Firebird for over a year now and its finally almost finished. He enjoys going to car shows where he can show his car off. In January, we had booked a weekend getaway to Ocean City, MD for the Car show there since he knew the Firebird would be done by then. Its coming up next weekend. We're both very excited to get away and have fun.

Last night, very late before I went to bed, I got AF. I was jotting it down in my phone app and I was making a mental note to call the RE for day 3 testing. Last month, the RE had me come in on Day 3 for testing and then on Day 12 for sono & bloodwork. I ended up developing a cyst and not really ovulating so last cycle was a bust for me. Had it worked out, I would have had an IUI.

Sor added background, I was on Clomid 50mg with my OBGYN, unmonitored back in January & February for 2 months. It didn't work. The RE started me with 100mg last month and it didn't work, but i did develop a cyst. This month, he would like me to try 150mg before moving on to something else. I don't hold out much hope that the 150mg of Clomid will work, but we'll give it a try.

Here's my problem. Wednesday is Day 3. Day 12 is next Friday, the 18th. Its also the day we leave for the car show. We are going with friends and driving with a group. Our departure time was 7am. DH can drive just us in the car, but we all need to drive together as a group in case something happens to the car and his friends are all techs as well and can help fix the car to get it on the road. The RE opens at 7am.

We can't leave later since we are taking a ferry for part of the trip and already bought tickets for it, so we need to make it in time to catch the ferry, so leaving later is not an option.

DH told me last night that he's ok with driving our regular every day car down there (and not bring the firebird at all) so we can leave later so i can go to the RE in the morning. I feel bad doing this because he has been working so hard on his car for so long but DH straight up told me that he doesn't care if he doesn't bring the Firebird because there will be other car shows to display it in in the year.

Even if we go to the RE on Friday morning, if the Clomid did work (doubtful, but hey! you never know Chat Icon ) he could tell me to trigger and then come in on Saturday/Sunday for the IUI. If that happens, we will lose the money on the hotel we already paid for.

I already have a call in to the RE to find out if they can possibly do the sono on Day 11 to see how everything is going and then maybe come back on the Monday we come back, which would be Day 15 but i'm freaking out...i have no idea what to do.

To make matters worse, our 1 year anniversary is next month and we booked a cruise. I'm due for AF to come next month (hopefully she won't, Chat Icon ) and unless i get my period on or before the 7th next month, i'll completely miss my Day 3 testing. When i told DH this last night he said this just sucks because essentially, we would kind of have to wait till July to start again.

Ladies, WWYD? Any thoughts or experience with different cycle day testing?

If you maded it this far, THANK YOU SO MUCH! Chat Icon

you can do day 3 testing anywhere between cd1-5 so that's not a big deal.

however if you are doing a medicated cycle you are sort of a slave to the meds unfortunately. you can try going in on cd11 for monitoring, if you start clomid early, like say cd2-7, then day 11 would give you a decent idea of whats going on. if your follies are ready and your IUI would be the weekend that you are away, you could just change it to a TI cycle (assuming you have your own hotel room Chat Icon ). you could ask for a trigger shot and trigger at the appropriate time, BD and not have to worry about going in for IUIs. IMO if the timing worked out that's what I would do cause IUIs don't really increase your odds that much (for me it was 8%).

that all being said, there is also no way to know if you will even respond to this round of clomid, so unfortunately you will need to be flexible and open minded and just go with the flow.

that is great that your husband is being so supportive of timing. it is really important to work as a team, especially when it feels like you are doing most of the real work!

as far as next cycle, i wouldn't bother trying to plan it at all. you dont know if youll get pregnant this cycle or if you'll ovulate at an unexpected time due to clomid, so you can't really judge when you will get AF. so you're gonna just have to take it as it comes and maybe skip next cycle, but worry about THIS cycle first. one day at a time!! that's the thing, we don't have our own room, whenever we go to these OOS car shows, we always split the room with good friends. So while i wouldn't mind doing the TI, not sure we could sneak that in there. Although, th friends we are sharing the room with have just found out they are pregnant after dealing with their own IF battle for the last 2 years...

Re: PLEASE READ ME, HELP REQUIRED!

I know its super hard and I have stopped planning OOS trips while we have been TTC but would you consider sitting this cycle out? I know its super hard to miss a month but its soo hard to time when you will have an IUI with the meds...one month you will have an IUI early and the next month you may get delayed...its all about how your body reacts...with next month you can def get tested earlier than CD 3 so hopefully you get AF and the timing works out so you can start the meds...I have gotten B/W and sono as early as CD 1 and as late as CD 5...I know that timing really sucks when you are trying to live a normal life but with any medicated cycle you almost become a slave to how your body reacts

i feel like even though we are trying this cycle, it won't work because my body isn't really taking to the Clomid anyway...but there is always that "What if" in the back of your mind. Its also that if we don't try this month, i won't be around at all, during cycle day 1-5 for b/w and sono so that would mean sitting out two months Chat Icon

i don't mind doing the TI route this cycle if the Clomid does work and I can certainly give myself the shot...

Have you considered maybe trying femara instead of clomid? I responded well to clomid but had cysts and lining issues but since I switched I had a cyst that went away but no lining issues...it may be something to consider?

Maybe if this cycle you can see if scheduling works out with an IUI where its not super inconvenient but you can find a way to do TI...even by renting a different room so you can Chat Icon so you will feel comfy and not lose the money you paid for the room...I know that potentially losing 2 months feels like forever but in the grand scheme of things it may just be a slight bump in the rd...you never know you might get pg on your trips

Re: PLEASE READ ME, HELP REQUIRED!

I am so sorry, I know the whole scheduling thing can be so incovienent, but its what we have to do for IF. For this month hopefully you can do a sono on the 17th. My RE has had to change days around for me because of scheduling issues, and it was never a problem. By that day, they should be able to see if you have follies growing, and how large they are.I know the dicy part is if you need to have the IUI while you are away, but I would just try and make time for TI...maybe in the backseat of the firebirdChat Icon

next month, you will just have to wait and see what happens, but try and enjoy the trip.

i wish we could rent a separate room, you would think these car shows wouldn't be a big event, but all the rooms have been sold out for a while now. I checked this morning and the hotel doesn't have any other room availability for that weekend Chat Icon

I asked the RE last cycle if we could move on to a different drug of choice and he said to rule out the Clomid 150mg and then we would move on to something else.

I think DH would have a heart attack if I wanted to christen the Firebird. he would probably be like, now? right now? in the Firebird? but...can it wait till we get inside? the seats are brand new Chat Icon
If this was his regular car i don't think he'd mind so much..no you know what, he would. He's obsessed with his cars...

This is a tough one. What did the dr say? I go in on CD 10 for monitoring, but then I'd trigger on 10 or 11 and have my IUI on 12 or 13. I'm not sure how you could avoid going in on a weekend.

I like the TI idea, but you'll have to kick your friends out of the room to get some private time, I guess. Chat Icon

No idea about next month. It will really depends what CDs your cruise falls on.

i think you might O earlier than I do. I go in on Cycle Day 12 for monitoring. DOn't really know when I would go in for the IUI since last month was a bust. I want to see if maybe I can go in on Cycle day 11 for monitoring and if the follies aren't ready, i can always go back on Cycle day 15 and maybe trigger then?
Still waiting for the Dr. to call me back... the wait is killing me! Chat Icon

I do O earlier than you. But my point is that when you're ready, you trigger and go in 2 days later. Days 11 to 15 is a pretty big stretch. There's a good chance you'd miss O if you have to wait until day 17 (that's assuming a trigger on 15).

Did you talk to Dr Grunfeld yet? I know he's in today (b/c I spoke to him this morning) but he's going on vacation so make sure you catch him today.
