please, please help me with curtains

I hate curtains. Hate them.

We've lived in our house for a year, and I've yet to find curtains to put in our breakfast nook/kitchen. To make dh happy, I finally ordered some the other day.

The whole area is a mish mosh..we've done as much as we're going to do with the space because we plan on gutting/dormering our house in a few years.

On the left is a sheer blue curtain I ordered. On the right is a white panel from our living room. Does either work? Dh wants color, whereas I'm very happy with very, very neutral things. Should I keep the blue? Get white? Get a different color? I also need short panels for our back door and over our sink, so I need something that can be ordered in multiple sizes (which I was able to do with the sheer blue ones)

Help!!

eta: I also ordered non-ghetto curtain rods, they just haven't come yet

I have similar curtains in a cream color with the scarf draping on top. My walls are pretty much the same color as yours. I got them at BBB. I like neutral so my vote would be to stick with a neutral shade.

Obviously I'm being a pain..the only thing that's stopping me from blinds is that we're going to be putting French doors where that window is in a few years..and then what could I do for our small windows over the sink and for the back door?

Re: please, please help me with curtains

I wouldn't go with sheer - I'd get a linen panel. A burlap would look nice too with your design scheme...

Curtain Shoppe in Seaford is going out of business. Pier 1 has interesting curtains too.

Re: please, please help me with curtains

I would do a tailored stripe-and I might find a shorter curtain. Burlap or linen would also look good as AP suggested

I'd go shorter--I don't love how it looks with the radiator.

How about just a valance?

Not feeling the sheers, sorry.
You can get reasonably priced white blinds at Home Depot, they will cut to fit. Then for some detail, maybe add a cute valance on a nice rod.

I have to agree. Burlap or linen would look great. Those sheers would be better in a bedroom IMO.

Those sheers are too long for that window with the radiator there plus I find sheers to be feminine more suited to a bedroom. Your table is rustic and with the wainscoting I think a Roman shade would be better suited.

So I'm going to return the sheers. I really don't want to spend a ton, and I feel like Roman blinds may be too much, especially since they will only be used for a few years.

I'll look for valences-what color?

Re: please, please help me with curtains

I personally don't love the sheers for this windows, but I'm the worst with curtains so anything I suggest would probably look worse.

But I have to tell you how much i LOVE your table. Where did you get it??

ooh, i like the pattern on the first one!...but since the window looks wider than most, im not sure if i'd go with curtains at all. i would still lean towards a shade.

i like the way shades plus curtain panels look. i think a linen shade with some faux silk panels anchoring each side would look nice.

I think a tailored valance like this (in the tan/blue pattern) paired with bamboo blinds would look perfect.

Re: please, please help me with curtains

A valance would definitely work better. I like Waverly valances because of the patterns, some are two tier, balloon, waterfall with a fringe, etc. You can find some at JcPenny or I know Christmas tree had Waverly recently.

I agree...a valance would look better, only because the heater is there.
