please note
"Ax" and "ask" are two different words and should be pronounced differently.
I cringe every time one coworker of mine says "ask" - or, well, means to say ask. And don't get me started on those people who have created an even worse hybrid form of the word that sounds something like "aahsx."
Feels good to get that off my chest. I'm sure I say lots of things that annoy people, too - but this one, I just had to get out.

but you are right, ask and ax are heard so much more often - just today this one got to me!!!

Don't be ashamed. I do lots of things that annoy people. It's "veritable" from day to day, though! 
ETA - I know one thing I do that really annoys people... I say "Seriously" all the time and also say "honestly" too much.
You can start a post about that. It can be "Can we honestly talk seriously about people who use words too frequently?!" And you can use the  face and the  face, and I'll totally get it.
I'm not trying to make people feel bad at all. I just heard it a million times in a row just now and had to get it out... I'm sorry if I made you feel bad.

It's a word, but it doesn't mean variable. I hear it misused a lot... but I give you a billion extra credit points for your use of it in a sentence.
Then there's irregardless, which is not only NOT a word, if it were a word, it would mean the exact opposite of people use it to mean.

SEE! I knew we'd find something I said that was annoying, too!
I used to do this all the time. I DO try to be better about it now, but "draw" slips out a lot.

UGHHHHH Drives me nuts.
