Please keep in your thoughts

Diane Aluska and her 16 year old daughter Jenna.

Diane pushed her daughter away from the path of an out of control car yesterday in Lindenhurst.
Diane unfortunately died and Jenna was injured.

The 80 year old driver of the car was also injured.

Diane is the cousin of a good friend of mine.
May she rest in peace knowing that her daughter is safe. Chat Icon

Please keep in your thoughts

I saw this story yesterday...how horribly tragic, and on Mother's Day no less.
Prayers for their loved ones and for Jenna's recovery.

SOMETHING has to be done about the elderly being re-tested at a certain age. This happens so often!!!!

DH and I always say that. It's a natural fact of life that your reflexes are not the same when you get older. It's a part of the aging process.
But you get your license when you are 17 or whatever, and that's it for the rest of your life. You can drive until the day you die, even if you have health problems, etc. Something needs to change.

The driver believed she had thrown the car into drive — but still had it in reverse, police said. When motorist Ann Riolo hit the accelerator to go forward, she instead kept going backward and jumped the curb.

After being in an accident with a 94 year old man with Parkinsons who absolutely should not have been driving, I strongly believe EVERYONE should be retested every 10 years or so, and elderly every 2-5 years. It is so unsafe - reflexes become slower, eyesight declines, hearing becomes impaired. It's so unsafe. This is such a tragedy.

Yes - this is exactly how I felt hearing this sad story. That while incredibly tragic, if it were me and my daughter's life could be saved, I would gladly die saving her. As a mom I understand... I am more sad for the daughter who may struggle with this fact for the rest of her life.

Prayers for this whole family... It's so heartbreaking.

Oh what a terrible tragedy. I know the mom didn't think twice about what she was doing, it's a mother's reflex to protect her kids. The poor daughter and family.

I feel for the elderly driver too. She must be devastated. Clearly there needs to be retesting for elderly drivers as people are living longer and longer. It's so scary to think of a 94 year old with Parkinson's driving as a pp said.

Re: Please keep in your thoughts

Jenna had surgery on her back, she was also hit by the car. She is doing fine, but her dad has the horrible job of telling her that her mom died.

From what I hear, the mother and daughter were like best friends.
