Please help...DD is 2 and still not sleeping through the night

Since she was born she has never slept through the night. We don't cater to her, we let her CIO FOREVER , and we have never taken her out of her crib . What can I do? My DH and I are done ! She bangs her head in a pattern while making a noise , kind of crying. The doc said she is just self soothing herself. Any suggestions? She does have reflux but is taking prevacid. Do you think a white noise machine would work at this point ?

It is worth a try. DS didn't STTN until he was almost 2. It was after a month and a half of hell. Then boom, it just happened. Maybe you should change what you do.. if CIO isn't working then try the one where you gradually leave. Take her out and rock her. It took awhile for us to figure out what to do to get DS to sleep *better* but he was also younger. Good luck it is difficult :(

I use black-out curtains and a loud white noise machine. How often is she waking throughout the night?

Wow, how long do you let her CIO and what do you do when you go in that gets her back to sleep?

Re: Please help...DD is 2 and still not sleeping through the night

My daughter is 14 months and she wakes up every hour or two, also like a newborn. We are weaned but sometimes it seems like she just wants to nurse still. We have a white noise machine and when she cries it turns back on in the middle of the night. This has been a lifesaver. She now sleeps from 8pm-1am without waking up. (still not hours that we are sleeping but hey, at least its a 5 hour stretch). She has STTN a handful of times here and there but never 2 days in a row and not enough for it to count. I would try white noise for sure. Sometimes I feel like she will never sleep. If she is 2 and still not STTN I might have to jump off a cliff...

It depends , if she is whining then an hr if she is flipping out then 1/2 hr. We rub her back and make sure her diaper is dry and she will go back to sleep for 2 or so hours.

She doesn't eat solids ( she doesn't know how, we see a specialist) . She eats baby oatmeal. She only has one nap if we are lucky for 2 hrs, and she has all her teeth. Milestones: She is right on par with everything. I'm at a loss Chat Icon

Re: Please help...DD is 2 and still not sleeping through the night

Does she fall back asleep after you are in there? After seeing your Ped, and ruling out anything medical, I will say (and my answer is NOT going to be popular and believe me, I have SUFFERED everlasting shaming from my DH and his family for this) BUT, the ONLY thing that got my 2 year old to sleep was laying down with him and sleeping with him in his room. I tried it all: noise machines, CIO, in the crib, in the toddler bed, in a full size bed, nightlights, sleep sacks, swaddling, blankets, sticker charts, bribery........

We got a full size mattress for him. I would lay down with him until he fell asleep, would get up, clean up, etc, & lay down with DH in our room and as soon as DS would get up screaming I would lay back down with him.

Finally at FOUR YEARS old he is sleeping until 7:30am in his room.

I actually felt justified when my DS #2 was sleeping through the night no problem in his crib at 5 months old. I did NOTHING differently with him. Why was he such a better sleeper than his brother? I just think some kids need to be close to their parents for anxiety reasons or whatever else.

To me, it was not worth walking around like a zombie putting my safety at risk during my 1 hr commute to work and having my work / home / everything performance suffer.

Many Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon to you.... I have been there.

she is two but is not eating solids? is she getting enough nutrition? she may be hungry! ask about her caloric intake... Chat Icon

is she still on formula or are you supplementing with higher calorie foods? if she is only taking milk and oatmeal, I promise she needs more!
