please help if you can...if your child is allergic to dairy??

if your child has a dairy allergy was one of their symptoms a chronically stuffy/runny nose?? what made you suspect an allergy in the first place?

DS had it from birth. He constantly sounded like his nose was super stuffy. He was having trouble drinking his bottles. He also had blood in his stools....He is now 15 months and just outgrew it..

When we 1st introduced yogurt (DS was BF) he broke out in hives, his lips & eyes swelled up and his breathing became very labored. We give him soy milk & keep him off of all things dairy now, so he's only stuffy for a while directly after an anaphylactic reaction like the one that I described.

We found out when my son was 6 weeks old. He had one evening of major crankiness, then blood in his stool. Took him to the ER upon the ped's recommendation and they did every test imaginable. By process of elimination, in addition to recalling the massive amounts of dairy I had consumed that day (I EBF), it was determined to be milk protein allergy.

Well the first time we introduced yogurt he broke out in hives (around 6 mo.) than cheese, hives again, even worse, swelling around the eyes, redish/pink around eyes. After that anything that had milk/cheese/butter in it he would have an immediate reaction. Nose would run too. So, we waited till 12 mo. to try it again, same reactions. Now at 15 mo we stay away completly, contemplating whether I should get him allergy tested (heard they're not that realiable).

I ebf'd and ate dairy throughout bfing...almost 15mo. never realized that he may have had probs with me eating dairy, didn't see blood in stool, but there were times looking back now when his nose would run clear liquid like crazy I always thought he was just allergic to something else

DD had it from birth and had servere colic..she also broke out in hives/rash all over her face and upper body.

i have learned food allergies affect people in different ways..they just diagnosed her with an egg allergy that gives her ear infections.. sounds weird but her thoat swells and causes the bacteria and fluid be pushed to her ear.

so i def will see an allergist.

and yes food allergies can cause cold like symptoms..
