PLEASE DON"T FLAME RE: child harness

For those of you that have used child harnesses, I was just looking to see if any of you guys had recommendations on which ones to get. DS is a runner, and a big kid (he is barely 3 but the size of a 5 year old) I need a harness that is durable... preferably with a snap in the back!! Chat Icon Chat Icon We are going to Disney soon and I am just very nervous...

Any help you ladies could give is very much appreciated!

i tried the monkey backpack one but frankly it never worked out well. Either my son threw a tantrum and wouldnt wear it or if he did the minute I "held him back" he would lay on the floor and scream till i took it off. Strapping him into the stroller was much more effectiveChat Icon

We have 2.. One is the monkey. He loves that one.. And another is a plain harness from Munchkin. It is hard to put on and even harder to get off... It is all velcro... We use them in really crowded places... D will be 4 on our next visit to Disney and I will be packing it...

I just saw someone using the monkey backpack one. Kid was at least 3.

We used a puppy Eddie Bauer (sp?) one with DS for a while.

I think most people appreciate the backpack/leash. I got mostly positive comments when I used one!

I have no suggestions but want to say, you do what you have to do to keep your DC safe! Disney is def the place you want to use some kind of harness too. I would have used one if I needed to! Don't feel bad about it, you are being a great mother to make sure your DC is safe if they are a runner! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would visit Amazon and read their reviews. I've seen these used a lot at Disney. People who don't understand what it's like to have a runner and or child who doesn't understand the dangers around them will be negative about this.

Ds is also a runner and the backpack works out great. We use it at big places like the airport, zoo and in Disney. He loves it, we have the monkey. Anyone that gives you nasty looks needs to get over it!

Re: PLEASE DON"T FLAME RE: child harness

I hear your pain and I also got the money one. I used to judge till I had my son now who's 2.

BTW... we are also going to Disney next month. I have been letting him wear the monkey backpack around the house to get used to it. Plus, he sees his 4 yr old brother wear a backpack for school so he likes it.

I am bringing it to Disney along with a double stroller so if he hates the harness then it's screaming in the stroller. Chat Icon

We brought the monkey harness with us when we went to disney w/ our almost 3 yo runner. We did not use it, he ran away, and he disappeared for about 10 minutes until I found him. Use the harness !!!!

Anyone who doesn't get it doesn't have a clue what it's like so don't waste any time worrying about them.

I have always had positive feed back from people except for one time at the zoo when I saw someone take our photo. Several people have asked me where I got mine (we got the furry animal back packs from target, they clip in the front by the way not the back). I think that if I was going to buy another set I would get one that is just a regular harness because the puffy stuffed animal in the back annoys my girls when they are in the stroller so it's alway on/off/on/off which is a pain. I would rather have one that they could wear the whole time.

We have this one and use it when we hike. My kids aren't really " runners" but there are unsafe cliffs etc even on the easiest trails.

For Disney we used a double stroller when the kids were 1 and 3.

Re: PLEASE DON"T FLAME RE: child harness

I have the winnie the pooh bear. My ds didn't mind wearing it and he liked that he could put stuff into the pooh bear for safe keeping. He too was very big but it fit comfortably on him.

Ets: The pooh bear detached from the harness so he got to play/ sleep with pooh to get comfortable with him. When it was time for him to wear pooh the transition was painless.
