Playtex Drop-ins

I just started using these bottles with DD. Do you squeeze out all of the air in the liner before you do a feeding or do you just fill and then feed? Also, how do you tell how much your LO has had to drink? I open the top to let air in so I can see how much is left, but then that seems to defeat the purpose of the bottle. Am I missing something?

I push all the air out prior to feeding. It's easier to do if you shove a burp cloth up there. I lay it on its side when I burp my LO to keep the bag from filling back up with air. I never reopen the bottle when feeding. DS usually finishes his bottle but if on occasion he does not, I don't really worry about the exact amount he left. When burping him, I just stop him periodically when it looks like he has drank a decent amount.

i don't squeeze out the air all the time, i don't know why i don't haha,

i also don't worry about how much she ate until she.'s done. if theres some left i will open it and take a look but those bottles never line up and its hard to measure so its a guess anyway. dd drinks the whole bottle most times before she burps, so i don't worry about how much and having to stop. if she has to burp, i can tell b/c she spits out the bottle, and freaks out hahs

That was my issue with the playtex drop ins. Everyone was telling me to try them (since I was using dr Browns) but I could never tell how much DD drank in order to stop and burp her. I got fed up with them and went back to Dr. Browns - much happier with them.

Squeeze the air out and then after you reopen you squeeze the air out again. I always used the bottle brush to empty the air out when much wasn't left.

I used these for both my boys and loved them and I plan on using them for dc #3

Why would you squeeze the air out?

When you turn the bottle down to feed, no air is getting into the nipple, just the formula, like any other bottle.

I squeeze the air out. Also, during burps or any breaks in feeding, it helps if you set the bottle down upside down, into the cap, so that no air re-enters the bottle. I never checked how much she ate until she was done. HTH.

i have the drop ins and only used it once bc i didnt think they were anything special....thank you for starting this thread bc i wasnt pushing the air out! i will have to try them again

with my twins I tried pushing the air out and honestly it didnt make a difference. We did it for a week and they still screamed all the time.

When you squeeze the air out NO air is left in the bottle, not even in the formula and as the baby eats the bag compresses down not allowing air back in. The whole point of the Drop Ins is to push all of the air so the baby spits up less and burps less. You're defeating the purpose of using the Drop Ins if you don't push the air out first.
