Playroom - yeah or nay?

What are your feelings about converting a extra bedroom into a playroom?

What are the pros and cons??

Thanks!

Re: Playroom - yeah or nay?

i can't think of any cons
pros are that you don't have to have toys scattered around everywhere you look...the mess is confined to one area, you always know where dc is

The only con I can think of is if you have a second & he loses his playroom (not sure how many spare rooms you have).

I think its a good idea. We are in the process of finishing our basement and making this into a playroom. Ryan has so many toys, many of them are big (ride on toys, playhouse) that there is no way they will all fit into his room and I hate to have my living room look like Toys R Us. PLus with a little girl coming soon, its only going to get worse. I say if you have the extra room to make a playroom, its a good idea.

It sounds like a great plan. I wish we had the room to consider something like that! I'm sure your DS would LOVE it!!!!

Re: Playroom - yeah or nay?

I just converted a bedroom into a playroom.
Pros;
Its great to have all the toys in 1 room.
Great for Playdates.

Cons;
But my DS once its a mess (which its everyday ) he doesnt want to play in it.
So its another room to clean everyday.

I would do it... but then, won't you have to be in there with DC all the time?

We sectioned our livingroom into a playroom. DD likes being with us, she doesn't like being caged in. So, yeah, our couch and tv are caged in with her, kinda?

that is what we did. It is a bedroom that is downstairs, and we made it into a playroom, still trying to get it orgnized.

I think it is a great idea!!! We did it with our finished basement.

One whole side is just his. I sectioned it off with one if those gets from One Step Ahead and he loves it down thereChat Icon

Plus it is a safe place for them to play and then you can just close the door afterwardsChat Icon

Hehe, our "formal living room" is the playroom. An extra bedroom sounds like a better place!

We are updating our finiched basement into a playroom. It's a necessity for us with all the toys Dc have - and they haven't had their 1st birthday yet! Chat Icon

Only pros in my opinion...you get a place to caged the toys and fewer overnight visitors since you don't have a spare bedroom anymore!Chat Icon

We made our 4th BR a playroom and it's great! However, I do have toys in pretty much every room. Chat Icon Chat Icon

We had one, it was GREAT. Then we had another child and needed the room back. Now my garage is a playroom.Chat Icon

It was wonderful having a room for her to play in and mess up without having to worry so much over how it looked...now that she has to play in her room, it's miserable.

pros:

-confinement of toys
-a place to put ALL those toys
-if more than 1 kid, somewhere for them to play without worrying about waking the other, especially if they share a room
-an indoor place to send your child that you don't have to supervise constantly/worry about strangers approaching them as you do with sending them outside.

cons:

-can become a giant uncontrolled mess
-if you have another child and need the room, you now have to find a home for all that stuff

The only con I see is if you will need the room for another child.

I agree.

We are probably going to turn a good part of our dining room into a playroom when DS gets older.

Re: Playroom - yeah or nay?

I had one when DH was a toddler. Eventually, it turned into a sunroom since he's 10 and most of his "stuff" is now in his bedroom.

yes. In my old house we had a playroom and now in this house we have one as well. I am not a person to keep toys out in the livingroom or everyroom. I like things confinedChat Icon It's great too when we have playdates, the house is never a mess only the playroomChat Icon
