Playground Supervision
I really cannot believe how many parents are just not paying attention to their kids on the playground these days. Yesterday, while I'm going down the slides myself with my children there's a young child under the equipment with his pants pulled down. DH later saw that he had pooped on the ground then got a spanking for doing so.
Wow. And if you were playing with your child or at least paying attention he wouldn't even have gotten as far as the pants pulled down.
My boys are 4 and 2. Too young for me (IMO) to just sit on the bench and watch.

Re: Playground Supervision
Lol! That's talent! I honestly don't think my 5 year old could poop on the floor if he had to! See lots of kids peeing in playgrounds (this is ok in our area), but have yet to see a kid poop. I'd probably crack up!

Re: Playground Supervision
I agree! My kid is 2 & I am right there on with him on the playground. I can't imagine being able to watch from afar! The other day we were at the playground & there was a little boy about my son's age running around & I looked carefully & his parents were sitting a good distance away, playing with their other child & not even paying attention. Maybe I'm overprotective, not sure, but I just wouldn't be comfortable with that.

Playground Supervision
My daughter is 4 and I sit on the bench. I even did when she was 3 unless she wanted help on the monkey bars or swings or something like that. I think it depends on the kid. She has always been very coordinated, and if we frequent a park often she is very comfortable on the equipment. I do not take my eyes off her though. At 2 I was def shadowing her.
ETA: My daughter would also never poop or pee on the floor. She knows she has to go to the bathroom for that. The parents obviously weren't watching him

Playground Supervision
My youngest is 3 and I don't shadow--probably haven't since he was 18 months old or so. Don't get me wrong, i'm always watching, but honestly it's kind of annoying when you have 5 parents hovering around their kids on the playground. If it's an age appropriate playground you shouldn't have to hover. Not watching you LO is a totally different story, thankfully we never experienced a kid pooping on they playground.

This! My youngest just turned 3 and my twins are 4.5. I don't shadow them on the playground unless there is something that they don't seem too confident in. Then I'll help them. I like to let my kids explore the playground and try everything on their own without my help (with the exception of the monkey bars). However, I do not take my eyes off of them. They know they have to respect the other kids on the playground and they certainly know they have to tell me when they have to go to the bathroom. We've never encountered another child pooping on the playground before although I heard about it from other moms at our local playground. I have however encountered a couple of kids older than mine (about 6 or 7 years old) bullying the other kids and their moms not doing a darn thing. That is one of my biggest pet peeves. I've said things to both the parents and the kids before. I may not be on top of my kids but I hear and see everything they do and would stop them from being disrespectful in anyway to another child on the playground.

Re: Playground Supervision
My daughter is 5 and I shadow her at all times. For different reasons for special needs. I follow her around, and correct her if she needs to be. My daughter is also too friendly and would go with any stranger, hug them high five them and so on. Or take off without telling me so I literally stay on top of her. She scares me too much. If its a small playground and not too many people that is enclosed then I give her some space.
