playdate/group etiquette

DS had his first official "playdate" this morning with a mom I met---and of course he proceeded to put all of the other kids toys in his mouth. I kept trying to give him his toys, but of course he wanted nothing to do with them. Chat Icon
Is this just to be expected at a playgroup? I know I'm a bit of a germaphob, so perhaps I am a bit more uptight about this kind of stuff, but I left her house wondering if it upset them that my kids germs are all over their stuff now (I shouldn't say germs, he hasn't been sick, but you know what I mean) You can tell me if I am being crazy!! All kids put stuff in their mouth and she shouldn't be upset by it. IMO!!

They all do it. When they were in the stage of mouthing everything I would clean stuff before a playdate and after. A few germs during is unavoidable IMO.

Re: playdate/group etiquette

I am glad you posted this. As a general rule, I try to "watch" what DD does as far as playing with toys, hugging, exploring, etc. and I am always more worried about how the other mom's will react. I know I have to be careful, but she is also learning at the same time.Chat Icon

Now, if YOU put everything you touched in your mouth, I'd be upset.... not a little DC. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Having DC not put stuff in their mouth is like asking them not to poop..... Chat Icon

Anything goes at playgroup, if you are a germophobe, STAY AWAY!! Playdates and playgroups are awash with germs! Good luck, I live for playdates, they are probably half for me to sit and gab and drink coffee with my girls, and half for my son to play with their kids....

I'm sure I will get over it, I would rather both of us have some social time then worry about germs! Chat Icon
