Plastic or wood play kitchen better?
I am trying to decide to between a wood or a plastic play kitchen (going between the Little Tikes Wood kitchen or one of the Step 2 plastic ones).
I thought the wood ones might be sturdier, but from reviews I'm reading, that might nit be the case.
Any reviews of either type would be helpful, or recommendations of a specific model. DS is 2.5 and DD is 1. TIA!

I would go with plastic b/c it's easier to clean.

Re: Plastic or wood play kitchen better?
I am trying to figure out the same exact thing. We are getting one for DD for her birthday (which is in a couple of weeks) and I've been going back and forth on this. I LOVE the way the wooden ones look, especially some of the KidCraft ones , but from people I have spoken to and reviews I've read, I think plastic might be the way to go. Some of the wooden ones also look a bit smaller/shorter as opposed to the plastic ones. Right now I think we're going to go with one of the Step2 plastic ones.

Ugh I know and I can't decide. I found a good deal on craigslist for a wood one, but i still think it's not that great of a deal...I could buy a new plastic one for almost the same price. I thought the wood ones would be sturdier, but from what I'm reading, that's not the case. I have to decide soon and I have no clue..I'm starting to lean more towards plastic now too. The wood ones do look better, but are also shorter. I saw them on display in TRU.

wood is porous...means it absorbs germs and stuff...especially if you are buying a used one off of craigist. At least you could bleach the heck out of plastic....

Right, plus wood chips, what kind of paint is it (lead in it?), and I would not use a clorox wipe on wood.
Plastic is the way to go IMO.

you can't kill those plastic sets! i love our Step 2 Lifestyle Deluxe kitchen b/c both kids can use it side by side. the drawers annoy me though b/c they fall out....but, in the end, what does it matter b/c the food and plates and pots are all over the place anyway! ETA: check out kohls online for one....you can often get a coupon code and kohl's cash so the savings add up...plus, let them ship the big heavy box to the door.

Re: Plastic or wood play kitchen better?
I always love the look of the wood toys and we always said we would not fill our house with plastic toys but my mom got DS at Step 2 kitchen from Costco and it's great. It holds up so much better than the few wood kitchens and friends and family's houses. The wood ones are getting chips and swolen parts and stripped screws/hinges falling off. And yes, the cleaning is way better.

Re: Plastic or wood play kitchen better?
get plastic We first got one of the $$$ Kidkraft ones and my DD at 3 pulled every single freaken door off. Because of the way they are built and the material they use (not really wood- all particle board crap/mdf) the wood basically splintered into a gazillion pieces so we couldn't get the dang doors back on.
After 3 months all the doors were off and my dad (a cabinet maker) couldn't event get them back on b/c the wood wouldn't hold it.
Now we have plastic
much better.
