Pink Eye - BTDT Moms come in please.
So DS - 20 months has had a cold for few days and then yesterday when he woke up he was oozing yellow out of one eye - wiped it away and it only came back after his nap and again this morning when he woke up and after his nap.
Is pink eye always pink? I know...dumb question but I am afraid this might be contagious etc ...do I need to take him to the Ped for this?
TIA

I can only speak from my experience, but when DD had pink eye, it was oozing even when she was awake, not just after sleep. Also, it would ooze from all over the eye, not just the corner. I would bring her just to be sure, but it could be seasonal allergies.

Sometimes not the actual eye but, if you pull out the bottom lid and that might be bright pink. I'd bring her in since it can be so catchy. Is she itching?
But, I agree with Karen. Liam's oozed all day long.

Dd had pink eye a few weeks ago and it wasn't pink at all...just tons of yellow discharge coming from the eye. It was pretty much gone a day after meds.

i think they may treat green crusty eyes with the same drops for pink eye. dd had pink eye it oozed but turned a itle pink. they said that she may have just got it from rubbing her eye after she was dripping from being sick. but than dh got it. the drops helped right away . in the mean time keep it clean which im sure you are doing

Thanks everyone - I may just hold off until monday and take him in them if its not better.
We are supposed to be going to breakfast with a friend of ours in the morning - he is elderly and not in the best of health - is this of any danger to him?

Sounds like his cold has spread to his eyes & he's getting a secondary infection. My ped prescribed antibiotic drops when it happened.
Hope he's better soon.

Re: Pink Eye - BTDT Moms come in please.
I just went through this this past week. My younger DD had crusty eyes on Sunday. Monday I found out a girl in her class had pink eye, which is the only reason I thought it might be pink eye. Her eyes weren't pink at all. Took her to the doc that afternoon, and they sort of said it was pink eye, but not severe. She got drops, but honestly I did not give her the drops that much because it wad torture for her and by Monday night her eyes looked totally normal. Tuesday, my other DD had crusty eyes and a fever. Weds she went to the doc for a check on her ear infection. By then, her eyes looked fine and fever was gone. Dr didn't give her med for the eyes even knowing my other DD supposedly had pink eye. Basically, they each had crusty, oozing eyes for a day or two that was pink eye, but it healed really quickly regardless of meds. Also, I wiped their eyes constantly and didn't get it at all

Our Dr. said that somehow the nasal cavaty is connected to the eyes and if the baby has a cold they can get gunk in their eyes from it.

DS just had the beginning stages of it when he had his last cold. I had no idea. The pediatrician picked up a glassy eye, and had me start drops.
