Picture of DD's playroom mural with vent.

I hired a local artist to paint this picture in DD's playroom.







There were a bunch of things that irked me about the artist, but I'll spare you the details. What really annoyed me was that she told me she would be finished by 6 pm. Towards the end, she mentioned that she didnt put as many jellybeans as the picture because she wanted the blue to show more. I told her that I prefered to have more jellybeans like the picture, to which she responded, "Oh I still have the light green jelly beans to add." Well at 6 pm. on the dot, I was going to check on her and I see her coming down the stairs with all of her stuff. I asked her, "Oh you're done?" and she said yup and mentioned how tired she was. Never asked me if I liked it or anything.

Am I wrong here, but shouldnt she have asked me to look at the mural before she packed up her stuff in case I wanted her to change/add something? I'm really irritated because she didnt do what I asked her to do--to make it look exactly like the picture. Plus she added light green jellybeans and there arent even any in the picture! I think she just threw it in there as a filler. It just seemed like she was in such a rush to leave and didnt care what I thought. Am I being too picky or should I say something to her?

IMHO... I really like it.. There are some light green jelly beans in the above picture.. I love it so much so - that I would even contimplate using them when its time for us to do our nursery.. I absolutely love it

when i first compared the photos, i couldn't see an issue..until i further inspected it and the painting she did seems very...sparse..when it comes to the jelly beans!! she should have filled it up more.

and yes, she should have showed you it before she packed up and left....did she do a clear coat over it to finish it or anything?

is this like a local student artist? i only ask because that would seem possible to me...that they wouldn't think to review it with their customer before packing up.

i'd definately call back and be nice and just ask that you'd like more jelly beans, as shown in the picture.

eta: i do love the mural though..it's very cute and modern and i think she did a good job as far as neatness, color etc....i just would want more jelly beans. lol

I love it and actually think she did a pretty good job. Her ppl person skills are not the greatest and it was not very professional to complain about being tired. If I hire someone to do a job, I could care less about tired or not tired!
If you compare the 2..her version is not as full. You need to call her back and fill in the white spaces with maybe magenta jellybeans, being that she used really light pink ones.

Other than that, I would love to have that playroom. Congrats to you for the vision!

I think it looks really sweet but I see what you mean about not being as full as the original. I would ask her to come back and fill it in with more jelly beans. She should have asked for more feedback before she started leaving but I dont begrudge her leaving at 6pm - it probably took a lot of time to do what she did, it's does get tiring doing creative work like that and she may have had another appointment.

she's actually an experienced muralist that has been doing this for years. she lives an hour and half away so i doubt she'll come back to fix it.

I agree that her people skills were not the best. I would call her and tell her you wanted more jelly beans. Have you paid her in full? I would count the number of beans in the sample and the one she did to point out the vast difference.

I understand why you are upset and I agree with you.

1. You asked for it "as is" so you knew how much blue would or wouldn't show. That was not her place to change it to "her" liking; she should have done it the way you asked.

2. It was not professional of her to comment on her level of exhaustion as she is a hired professional

3. She DEFINITELY should have called you to look at it before packing up and leaving.

Im sorry! It does look great, but if it is not exactly what you asked for, you have a right to be upset and i would feel the exact same way!

I think it came out great...but I can see what your talking about... the pink should of been more darker like the picture.

While I think the mural looks nice, it does not match the picture exactly. I think the pink should be darker and there should be more beans.

I would expect her to ask for your opinion before packing up and leaving also
