photoshop users come in
ok so i got photoshop elements 4.0 as a christmas gift.. i have to be honest... because i am not a computer saavy person the box itself intimidates me.. tell me ... should i order a book to leaarn the program or can i teach myself..
btw, i have a mac..
and if i should get a book... can you recommend one? TIA!

I think it depends on what you want to do with it - graphics? editing photos? both?
I have Photoshop for Dummies - which you can borrow for a few months if you're good about giving it back.
The best way I learned was to try have people email things they wanted to do & to figure it out myself.
If you have iTunes, subscribe to the photoshop podcasts. They were a great way to learn.
If someone wants to put together a webinar, I'd be glad to show how to do invites again & a few new things I learned since the last class.
Check out the Crafts board too. I started a thread on digital scrapbooking & have since added to it.

To answer the OP - I have a few books collecting dust.
I think the best way is to play around with it for a while first to see what you can learn on your own and then look into the more detailed stuff with a book or website.
Baby Avacado put together a great list of websites to go to for tips...let me see if I can find it.

I have the Photoshop Elements 5.0 Missing Manual. I really like it, there are step by step illustrated instructions and they don't talk over your head.

also, if you have something in mind that you want to do, you can just google it. there are TONS of free tutorial sites, blogs, etc.. out there to give you step by step directions. I also find that i'll start looking for one thing, and then link to the various sites and learn more and more tips and tricks.

i did a search at my library and all the ones in suffolks and they have a whole bunch photo elements 4 for dummies, photo elements 4 the missing manual

Me too. I was glad to see this post. I was playing around last night and couldn't figure out a lot. I was trying to do a search and getting frustrated because I didn't know what it was called and maybe someone here know--what it's called when the photo is black and white and you have one colored element in it?
