Phone skimmed
I went to Brooklyn over the weekend and someone used a device to skim my phone. They accessed all my saved passwords and have already ordered $78 worth of Chipotle (am disputing with bank) and attempted to order Door Dash (I got notified via text so I stopped it and changed the password before that went through) and today attempted to access my 7-11 account. Though I have no saved info in there, so all they could do is get a free donut with my points.
Just posting this as a heads up. We don't realize how many passwords are stored on our phones, and if you go into your settings they are all there. A lot of people have banking apps, Paypal, and Amazon that all hold your payments and account information.
My phone is password protected and has face recognition and it never left my possession and someone was able to do this. It's been a rude awakening.

They have some type of reader that allows them to draw all of your info if they stand within a certain distance of you. We were shopping, so people were standing all around me and I had no idea it was happening.

Re: Phone skimmed
That is so scary! I try not to have passwords autosave, but I am sure my phone still has these things even if I have to type them. I am so sorry. I would file a police report in case they are trying to take your identity. I would also lock your credit.

Re: Phone skimmed
They can do this with your car keys too if you have push button start. They will follow you from where you park into say, a store, stand close enough to you to scan your key and then can go get in your car and drive off. They can also do this in your driveway if you keep your keys close enough to the front of the house to be scanned.
DH got us these RFid blocking pouches to keep our keys in... like they have for credit card skimming- the special wallets.
They need to make cases like that for phones now too it seems! Crazy
I always say- you have to be pretty smart and tech savvy to figure out how to skim things like this- if only they used their brains for good.

Re: Phone skimmed
I've heard of phone skimming, scary.
That's why I never do anything financial related like banking or making purchases on my phone, I use my home computer.

Dh just ran into this problem- weirdly enough, it was an order to chipotle in brooklyn that caught it attention. Also through door dash.... Did you happen to notice the address that the food was being delivered to? Maybe it's the same guy. Ours was a delivery on Kent St.

So these people use stolen credit cards etc to order shit to their home address? how stupid are they? That's so easy to trace. Why can't they go after them?

I wasn't sure they would do anything. Would you call a local precinct or the one in Jamaica?

That’s terrible. I never heard of that. I never store passwords for that stuff in my phone because I’m paranoid of this kind of stuff. Google alsways asks me to but I always say no.

Do you have an Android? This should be impossible on an iPhone. Just trying to figure this out. Scary.

Nothing is impossible. iPhones are not immune to hackers no matter what Apple wants you to believe .

we went to our local precinct and reported it- They also got ahold of our bank account number so we had to change everything. Keep an eye on it all

Nothing is impossible. iPhones are not immune to hackers no matter what Apple wants you to believe .
Apple is pretty dam secure. Unless you do something from the phone itself like to go a malicious website or install a malicious app, or hang out on open unencrypted public wifi, you aren't getting hacked.
If the FBI had to pay somebody $900,000 to get the data off the San Bernadino terrorist's password protected iphone, some guy isn't going to get data from a "skim".
https://www.engadget.com/2017/05/08/fbi-paid-900000-to-unlock-san-bernardino-iphone/
Now if it's an Android phone with it's open OS, different story.

I don't know what is possible and what isn't, I just know the accounts that have been hacked (or attempted to) are apps or sites I have only ever accessed from my phone. I have never been on the Chipotle, Door Dash or 7-11 sites on a computer. That alone tells me it was phone related. And it began happening within an hour of leaving a pretty seedy neighborhood.

iPhones are hackable. Each person uses their phone different which can exploit or create weaknesses. An example would be a person without a password, they open their device to being hacked.
Several weeks ago there was a hack with FaceTime, which led to everyone's iPhone being vulnerable to someone hacking into your device and listening to you if you did not shut off FT.

I agree. It's just that people talk like the iPhone is the second coming of Christ and the best phone God or the Devil ever created and can NEVER EVER be hacked. And it creates a false sense of security IMO

LOL, I knew where you were coming from. I was validating your point.
That was the same way with MAC Computers years ago. How it wasn't hackable or prone to viruses, and you could never get one. Which, was absolutely false.
Also the article posted really doesn't prove anything because the owner of the device could have really secured his phone and probably didn't have any vulnerable apps etc..
ETA: I also don't trust the iPhone X lol. I got for free at my job and finally upgraded my phone. I hate it.
