Personal: What would you do?
So most of you know the situation with my family (basically a year ago my dad just packed up his stuff and walked out on us..now he's living with his gf who is my sister's age)...
yesterday we get a wedding STD in the mail from my cousin addressed to my dad and his gf.
I really want to call up or write to my cousin and rip him a new one....or should I not? Any creative ideas? What would you write.say? Even thinking about this makes me so ****** off and insulted for a number of reasons
ETA: The cousin is on my dad's side. I've only met him a few times in my life and he's about 10 years older than I am, not someone I'm close to

Re: Personal: What would you do?
not knowing the relationship between you and your cousin makes a big difference. Do you think he sent it purposely ot make you feel bad? Maybe he wanted to tell you and didn't know how, or didn't want to deal with a very emotional reaction?
In any case, I am sorry.

Re: Personal: What would you do?
I barely know this cousin. I don;t think he was trying to tell us anything....but it's bizarre, I mean he had to call someone and get the gf's name and spelling (it's a foreign name, not easy to spell), and then he sends it to our home?

Re: Personal: What would you do?
That is really odd. Maybe call him and tell him thank you for the heads up? Or if the wedding was supposed to be a secret, he thought he was doing something kind by telling you? KWIM?

Re: Personal: What would you do?
To me this doesn't sound intentional. I bet they just weren't thinking and sent it out and were just so wrapped up in wedding planning.
I'd just toss it in the trash.

Send it back as undeliverable...person moved. I wouldn't get in to it with your cousin...you are the only one that will end up getting hurt.

No, no...my cousinw as sending out STDS for his own wedding. apparently he wants to invite my dad and his gf, but instead fo sending the invite to my dad's new palce with his gf, he sent it t our home...
it was probably just a really super idiotic mistake...but I mean, if you're going to do that, get the address right

Re: Personal: What would you do?
I would also write "RETURN TO SENDER" and drop it in the mail. This way the cousing gets the idea to not send anything else to your house and you don't have to talk to him.

Ohhh, I gotcha. I'd chalk it up to a careless mistake.

I would call the cousin and ask him why didn't he ask for your father's address when he took down the girlfriend's name?? That's so messed up.

Shouldn't I write him a note with it? I can't believe it. My cousins are just wholeheartedly supporting my dad.
It's funny because I was working on my wedding list and I was saying I wasn;'t going to invite a soul on my dad's side, and everyone was like "no, you should invite your cousins, they have nothing to do with it, don't burn bridges with them"..HA!

I mean that really bothers me. He got the gf's name, so he knows what's going on. Why be so careless? It really really hurt my mom, and all of us, to have to see that in our mailbox

If they are wholeheartedly supporting your dad, then they should be in touch with him enough to know where he lives. Personally, I wouldn't want the aggravation of bothering with this person if he wasn't someone I am not close to.

Maybe you're right. I mean Return to sender would make the point. He'd realize hopefully that he sent it to the wrong house, I wonder if he'd bother apologizing.
Anywaym you're all invited to my wedding..haha..withut my dad's family I'll be like, 5o under my minimum...

Thats what would bug me, that he called someone and got the correct spelling of her name and the person didn't care to mention that your dads new address. I would just write wrong address and drop it in the mail, sounds like a mistake. It will let them know to get the correct address. But if the shower or wedding invite come to your house too, then I'd just throw them out because after sending the STD back with wrong address they should get the point and anything thereafter sent to your moms would be rude!!

That they specifically invited him and his gf? I mena him, fine but to go out fo your way to get his gf's name. If my uncle just flat left his wife and kids and took up with a new gf, there's no way in hell I'd want to go and invite his gf. Family means nothing to these people..seriously

Jenn, I'm sorry that happened. You and your mom must have been so hurt. It was a stupid thing for your cousin to do, whether or not it was intentional. I think dropping back in the mailbox with "Return to Sender" will send the right message, and will save you the frustration of confronting your cousin about it.

Re: Personal: What would you do?
Oh God, that's a terrible thing to find in your mailbox
I too would chalk it up to carelessness and send it back "Return to Sender". Does your dad now live nearby? Maybe your cousin was thinking he sent it to the new address - I do this a lot with Christmas cards. My family goes all over the world so it's hard to keep track. Maybe that's what happened here. Either way, it's a sucky thing to have to come home to and for that, I really am sorry for you and your mom.

Ditto to what she said but I'd say.... This way the cousin gets the idea not to send any future mailings intended for your father and his girlfriend to your home.
