I started asking around for recommendations around 25w. We know who we're using but I haven't called to meet them yet. I'm 30w already. I figure I'll get to it in the next month or so.
There's no rule saying you have to meet with your pediatrician. You can literally just decide in the hospital who you want to use and then make an appt for a few days later. Also, the ped you choose does not have to be affiliated with the hospital you deliver at.

This is what we are pretty much doing. We went off of referrals for peds in our immediate area (live in NYC, so walking distance ideal). Some of the peds I called don't even do pre-natal consults, so we're not meeting with any. You can always change if need be.
