Ped waiting room?

Does your dc sit in the chairs and wait or move around?!?!? And how old are they?

Feeling defeated! Taking my 3 kids to the dr by mylself is becoming a nightmare!

My 17 month old is all over the place!! Climbing standing on furniture, I have to devote a lot of attention to him so my twins don't sit either.

My youngest fell and got a huge egg on his head

I left feeling like a failure, like my kids were out of control.

Everyone else was sitting so nicely!!! Granted those moms only had one dc with them.

I was going to say, I only have one! So cut yourself a break. I can't imagine the pandemonium that would ensue if I had 2- much less 3!

I'd never look at a mom, alone with 3 kids in a peds office and say- oh jeez, what a failure she is, her kids are all over the place!

Don't worry!

We all have those days - don't beat yourself up.
I try never to take the 3 to the dr together.

Re: Ped waiting room?

I let her walk around. With that said, her ped has a really small waiting room. She tries to roam the halls, but I grab her. I can't imagine trying to wrangle 3 kids. You're doing pretty awesome if you ask me!

Re: Ped waiting room?

oh don't feel bad. 17 moths is a tough age, I know lol

that being said, sometimes when I bring my 2 it's a nightmare. Especially when in the room.

I bring a tone of snacks, water, and usually my 17 month old is the stroller.

Can you bring the stroller?

Or make their appts seperate? I know I hate going to the ped for their healthy checkup. But maybe try leaving the 17 month old for the twins appt and vice versa. (obviousy if you have help around. I do not have help so I try when my older is in school. if not they are both with me)

Just some ideas

I only have one, but DS is three and I still take him into the waiting room in an umbrella stroller. He is very active and I can picture myself having to chase him all over the waiting room, so that's how I avoid it.

My 3 y.o. and 5 y.o. can't sit still and move all over the doctors office. My husband and I always look at the other quiet children and say "what are we doing wrong?"

Thanks everyone!

NervousNell pandemonium is exactly what it was!

I walked there today with the triple jogger so I couldn't bring it in. I do sometimes bring the umbrella but can only use it in waiting room.

Unfortunately I don't have much help so it have to bring them all.

The visit before this my DD had a complete meltdown where she turns into a crazy animal...that was fun!

I'm over it because I'm going away with dh tom for 2 nights ALONE with no kids!!!!!!!

Wow. I am impressed. I have never brought all 3 to the dr. at the same time even with DH!!! Never mind alone. Omg. I once brought my twins when they were 2 alone and it was the worst experience of my life. They were screaming the whole time. The dr. had to call a nurse in to come help me. I was so embarrassed. I vowed never again. If I have I go by myself only one goes with me. For the twins, DH and I go together.

I give you a lot of credit. Enjoy your time away, you've earned it:)

I get nervous entertaining my ONLY child in the waiting room! It's exhausting! I couldn't dream of 3! I wouldn't worry about the battle wounds, you got through the day!

Re: Ped waiting room?

Oh dear Lord I can relate, and I only have 2. DD will be 3 soon, and DS is 14 months. I had to take them to the dentist today (DS fell on his mouth and was gushing blood over the weekend...wanted to see that his teeth were ok).

DD has to dance whenever she hears music playing, so she started dancing in the middle of the waiting room (to Phil Collins no less), and banged her head into a table and started wailing. DS was running all over the place like a madman and picking all the berries off the fake plant on the table. Then he started wailing when we had to go into the examining room. They were by far the youngest ones there, but I was still mortified.

Never again will I take them to the dentist/doctor alone again!

I agree. I'm sure it's even rough taking 2 kids.

To answer your question, my daughter is 18 months and I let her walk around. Especially if we have a bit if a wait, she'd never just sit.

I took my dd recently at 21 months old and she was all over the room. She wanted to sit in every single chair in the waiting room, talk to the fish in the fish tank, do a little dance for no reason in the middle of the room Chat Icon and all this was when she was sick with a fever and didn't want to move at all at home. Go figure.

She's 20 months and won't sit still. She's all over the place, talking to kids, playing with the kids, climbing on chairs, saying hi to every person who walks in. I feel like she's the inky kid who won't sit still!!

Re: Ped waiting room?

All I can say is thank God for strollers!! My kids would be down the hall opening doors and behind the nurses station if they were free to roam.

Ped waiting room?

I get stressed out just bringing my 1 DS by myself. He is a handful and a half. All over the place. Wanders down the halls. In and out of the exam rooms. His pediatrician is a sole practioner and rarely are there others waiting. But when we go to a large practice, he will make his way into other people waiting in exam rooms. And when I try to control him, it turns into a full blown tantrum. (DS is special needs, not that that is an excuse, but it does contribute to things).

Go easy on yourself. Ever mom has been there. Whether you have 1,2,3 or more kids. We all understand.

I give you credit with 3! My DS just by himself is a handful. He is a climber and wanderer, and also throws tantrums when I try to stop him. Thankfully the last time I brought him to the ped he fell asleep on the car ride over so he was sleeping when I took him out of the car into the waiting room!

Oh and also I feel like I can't even take him to stores by myself anymore since he finds a way to crawl out of the shopping cart, even when strapped!

Re: Ped waiting room?

I can't imagine going with 3 kids. I just recently had to take 18mo DS and 3.5yo DD together. The waiting room part was ok but my ped has a great waiting room- lots of room to walk around and play, lots of toys, a tv, great set-up. The kids play with the toys and don't want to leave when we get called in.

The exam room is the problem, trying to keep them occupied in there waiting for the nurse then doctor to come in. I have DS screaming because I won't let him down to "explore" the room and DD climbing all over the only chair in the room. No fun. I can't even picture doing it with a 3rd there! So don't feel bad at all, your hands are more than full!

OMG, I thought I was the only one! DD is obsessed with going to the doctor and doesn't even mind getting shots!

Ped waiting room?

ugh i hate taking them to the doctor - or anywhere alone! i had to take them both to the dr a few weeks ago (ds was about 7 weeks old so it should have been easy but it wasnt). DD was 17 months old and wouldnt sit still...running all around, out of the watiing room towards the patient rooms etc. DS in the stroller should have been a piece of cake except that i waited so long he was due to eat and he was screaming. i had to go ask to be put in a room with a closed door to nurse ds while dd wouldnt be able to leave my sight. i felt so bad having to ask them that but i had no choice...she would have caused trouble if i let her run around

i just told myself the staff must be used to crazy kids after all, they deal with them most of the day
