PCOS and Metformin
I was able to conceive my first child (who is now 16 months old) with no assistance, but since January my entire cycle has gone completely out of whack (skipped 4 months and now I've had it almost straight for 3!!!) I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and was told that my insulin levels in my eggs were too high. In addition, my dr also did a biopsy of my uterine lining which came back too thick. My RE started me on metformin and prevara. I started it yesterday and had some bad stomach "issues" last night. i was ok for most of today but took it again tonight and am having the same stomach issues again.....I made sure I ate a full dinner and drank a ton of liquids today as suggested.
Anyone have any experience with either of these meds and have any pointers on how to prevent it from making me so sick???
THANK YOU

Re: PCOS and Metformin
What dosage is the metformin? That's what's causing the tummy troubles, not the provera. I had to reduce my dose to 500 mg twice a day because the 750 was killing me. It took a long time to get used to it. Plus take it with food. Otherwise, you just have to give it time. Gl

Re: PCOS and Metformin
I'm on 750 twice a day, the dr had me take one a day for 7 days then twice. Give it some time, the stomach issues will go away.

Re: PCOS and Metformin
It will get better, just takes some time for your body to adjust to it. Maybe ask for a reduced dose, and then up it gradually...

I will be beginning metformin next week, and my RE told me that the beginning is the worst, but it does get better! Hang in there

I had to get off Met, it just killed me. But I know SO many people who were fine on it. You need to start off slowly and your body should get used to it.

PCOS and Metformin
Thanks for all of your responses. My RE recomended that I start slowly since I already have IBS. He didn't want the metformin to flare of my condition since its been under control for awhile. I have been taking one 500 mg pill. The first night I took it while eating dinner and that had horrible consequences. However the past two Night's I've taken both the metformin and provera right before I go to bed and it has been MUCH better. Ultimately I need to get to 1500mg a day, but my RE recommended increasing slowly since I'm not ttc at this particular time. Again, thank you all and feel free to keep the metformin feedback coming.
