PCOS
Hi all,
Sending you lots of . I'm not TTCing yet but had some issues, went to my ob/gyn, and she thinks I have PCOS. Initial sonogram didn't look great and I have some blood work test results I'm waiting on. I'm crushed! She spoke of putting me on Metformin. I've been getting my period but my cycle has been about 50 days. Does anyone have experience with Metformin? Has it helped?
Thanks!

Re: PCOS
I've had PCOS for a couple of years, atleast 7 that I know of. I recently went back on metformin (went off BCP so we can TTC), and am doing fine overall. We just started full-on TTC, so no results yet, but am very helpful!

Re: PCOS
For me, my PCOS means I don't ovulate on my own. I'm on 1500 mg of metformin and I've done six cycles of clomid. On 100 mg of clomid I ovulate, I didn't on 50 mg. I've had two iui's and waiting for a third, but IVF consult coming up. Best advice, track to see if you O by using CBD smiley face tests. Then you go from there. Mine never turned positive until the right dosage of Clomid. Good luck!

I also have PCOS and do not ovulate on my own. I've been on Metformin since October and do not see a change in my cycle- I still often need Provera to get Af. I've also done a few Clomid/IUI cycles, and while I have produced mature follicles on 200mg of Clomid, I still needed a trigger shot to ovulate. My RE said if PCOS is your only issue, then it's very easy to control. For my situation, my DH also has MFI, so we definitely needed to see an RE.

Re: PCOS
I was diagnosed with PCOS in August of 2012, but the dr's think that I probably have had this since I was much younger. Years of being on birth control kept the PCOS under control and once I came off it after having my first child all hell broke lose and my cycles went crazy. (I conceived my first son with no assistance). After consulting with my OBGYN I decided I needed to see a specialist. After a few months of trying to regulate my body, they put me on metformin. At first I started with 500mg, then 1000mg and then 1500mg. My body responded well at first, but more recently I was getting extremely sick taking the pills. (Bathroom issues...I won't go into more detail). So I spoke with my RE who changed the prescription to only 1,000mg on the extended release kind and I've been fine since. PCOS is not a death sentence and MANY MANY MANY women with it get pregnant with help and without it. Do not feel disheartened because it will happen for you too. Right now we are going through our second IUI using 150mg of Clomid (since my big issue is I don't ovulate on my own) and I also got the "trigger/HCG" injection to make the ovulation take place. Good luck!
My biggest advice, is to exercise, eat healthy (limit your carb intake) and the PCOS will improve! :)
