PCOS
What are some of the symptoms? And what made you go to the Dr and get it checked out. Thanks

Re: PCOS
My dr thought I might have had this when I was in HS and my main symptom was bleeding VERY heavily and was SO irregular! I would basically have my period for 5 weeks and then not for 2 weeks and then have it again for 5 weeks... it was crazy..
I went to the dr and had a sonogram where they found TEENY cysts in my ovaries. I know that some other symptoms (although I never had them) are obesity and excess body hair- I know people with PCOS who have met that description AND who haven't! So, really the only way to know is get it confirmed by a dr.
It was never confirmed if it was that or not, and my dr now said I have every reason to believe I will get pregnant like the average person, since that was 10 years ago and lots of teenage girls have similar issues and go on to have normal pregnancies.
In your case, if you're worried I would speak to your dr about it! SO MUCH BETTER than lurking on the internet only to find scary info that may not even apply to you! And, just know that if you DO have it, it's more common than you would think and I know people with PCOS who have gotten pregnant and had healthy pregnancies and babies!
Good luck!!!!

Re: PCOS
i never had any idea that i had it when i was younger. i got normal periods but had bad acne. went on BCP at 17 and the acne went away too - assumed i was just growing out of it.
fast forward 12 years i went off BCP on may 1st of this year. never got AF. 3 months went by. ob/gyn did bloodwork and said i "may" have pcos based on my hormone levels. she told me to chart bbt temps and make sure i was ovulating. the first cycle i did O but not until cd32. i havent O'd since and that was in august. because of bbt charting i knew i wasnt Oing so i went back to the ob/gyn who gave me a prescription for clomid and sent me on my way.
i wasnt at all happy with the lack of diagnoses and the lack of care, so based on feedback from these boards i decided to see a reproductive endocrinologist to get a diagnoses and see why i wasnt ovulating. he did a lot of bloodwork and my only symptom is a very high LH level. this causes the increase in testosterone and likely caused the acne i had as a teen too. other than acne though i had no other symptoms.. if it wasnt for bbt charting and lack of AF after BCP telling me that i wasnt ovulating i prob never would have gone to the RE and gotten the real diagnoses. my ob/gyn just threw clomid at me and sent me on my way.
soo i recommend if you suspect that you have PCOS you first try to determine if you are actually ovulating or not. bbt charting is the best way to confirm ovulation, so i would recommend that if you havent yet. also if you know you dont ovulate regularly or if you have been TTC for a while with no success or have irregular AF i would 10000% recommend seeing an RE. they do a lot more testing then the average ob/gyn.
good luck

Re: PCOS
Thank you so much. I am only thinking this because I had a sonogram when i was younger, because of pain. And they said a cyst was there, but just ruptured. I have been getting on my OPKS...but I know that doesnt meant I am definitley Oing.
Thank you
