Paying it forward?
Discussion I am having with someone.
She got McDonald's breakfast and the person in front of her paid. She did not "pay it forward" to the person behind her and said she'd do it some other time.
I told her I thought that when in a line/queue where people are paying it forward, you keep it going.
Not a huge issue but we are disagreeing

Re: Paying it forward?
Yeah, I usually do. LOL. I would've paid for my order so why not make someone else's day? I guess there is always someone who ends it.

Paying it forward?
Yes u do! a friend of mine usually does it, and I did it one time at Starbucks. It actually felt pretty good and hopefully the person after me continued doing it. For me it was like a karma thing.

Paying it forward?
I did it during the holidays when the guy in front of me at dunkin donuts paid for my order. I paid for the person behind me. I will occasionally do it but only at a drive thru. I feel like it could get awkward doing it while the person is standing there.

Re: Paying it forward?
I don't think it has to happen right then and there.
We do this as a community during the holiday season and it's just to give people a little pick me up for the day.
Hopefully they do it one day too

Re: Paying it forward?
See I would personally feel like a real shit for not paying it forward to the next person. But I guess someone has to end it at some point. She's just a nitpicky person and not the type to be as generous to others.

Can I ask a stupid question- How do you pay it forward if you don't know how much their order is going to be?

I don't think you have to pay for the person behind you to keep it going. I would definitely do it another time though.

Re: Paying it forward?
I would have took the money I would have paid for my own and said to the cashier apply this to the next customer
Is it rude to not do it. I guess not. But you were going in with the intention of spending money. So I would have done it there

Her order could've been maybe $3. When the person behind her could've ordered 5 big breakfasts and a few Big Macs.....

Re: Paying it forward?
I feel like it was a nice gesture. It was something someone felt was a good thing to do.. Not to "force" Others to do it too. I dont think you need to do it again right after that.. Seems silly to me. I think its nicer if maybe a week later you see a person who seems in need of it and you do it because you want to do a nice thing.

I never would think to do that right there; the other car could be ordering for a girl scout troupe!
I'd do it another time/place

lol, like other stated maybe she only has x amount of money, perhaps she ordered $5 worth and the person behind ordered $50.
Some people do live on a budget and every $$ is counted out.

Re: Paying it forward?
A year or so ago someone paid for my stuff at the DD drive through. it was my first experience and I was surprised, and didn't realize I should have paid for the person behind me.

Paying it forward?
I started it once in the drive thru at my Dunkin. I felt like doing it it was the holidays erc. When I went onto the main road I looked back and the person didn't pay it forward. Then at my Starbucks once I got to the window and the cashier was like this has been going on for 3 hours!! She didn't even want to leave her shift bc she wanted to see how much longer it went on for. Of course I continued. And about 2 hours later on my local moms group on FB someone mentioned they JUST left the Starbucks on xxxx and thanks to the person who paid. So 2 hours later it was still going on!!! It's was pretty awesome

Paying it forward?
Happened to me at the Starbucks next to my job. I was so pleasantly surprised I paid for the person behind me. Their order was cheaper than what mine was so I tipped the baristas as well.

Paying it forward?
U don't HAVE to continue doing it if the person in front of u paid for ur order, it's just a nice thing to do. If u decide to do it another time, who knows, maybe the person u pay for will notice the nice gesture and will continue with the person after him/her.
If u're worried the person after u has a big order, u can always find out before paying for that person (if u're in the drive thru).
